Are you selected in mappers? What are your settings in sound setup?

Your sound settings (CONFIG -> Sound Setup) should be as follows:
Inputs: None
Outputs: External Mixer
Sound card: ASIO Driver
Choose Denon ASIO in the drop-down list.
NOTE: if you have installed the new firmware v1006 and are using VirtualDJ v6 trial, it will not work because it is not currently compatible. If you have upgraded to v1006, you will need to downgrade to v1005

ok, I have it set up like you are saying, now it doesnt give me that error, but the denon wont respond to anything i do. I unplugged and plugged it back in. It says its linked. I have v 5. When I first plugged it in it would find the songs. then I had the driver problem, and since, it wont respond. it says "link" when I touch a button.

So are you saying that if I buy the full version of Virtual DJ my Denon HC4500 will work properly? Also a question for the other folks out there using the HC4500 with VDJ.... do all the lights on your deck light up like they are supposed to? My current software doesn't have the lights mapped and even thought it is just "cute" stuff and all the function work properly I JUST WANT MY LIGHTS TO WORK lol. I like flashy things^^

@cj7chaos :
Please register your serial number and update to the latest v6 version. There have been numerous bug fixes to the HC4500 in the v5.x releases. A minimum of v5.2.1 is recommended. In the new v6, you can change the mappings of the controller to suit your preferences. v6 is a free upgrade to all registered licensed users: http://www.virtualdj.com/buy/index.html
Also, please ensure that you are running firmware v1005 on the Denon (To check, hold down the BACK and SOURCE buttons on BOTH decks while turning on the power.) If you have an earlier firmware, these have MIDI bugs and that may cause problems. The firmware can be obtained from Denon http://www.denondj.com
NOTE: DO NOT install the new v1006 yet - This is not compatible with VirtualDJ v6 (An update will be released soon.)

@DiskJockeyWatty :
Yes, the Denon DN-HC4500 is fully natively supported in VirtualDJ and has been since the v5 versions.
The LED's and displays are fully functional - Take a look at my avatar picture - That's the HC4500's displays being controlled by VirtualDJ.
The default mapping is kept simple and v6 you can optionally change any aspect of it if you wish using the new VDJscript mapping.
Please download and try out the free 20 day trial verison if you haven't done so already: http://www.virtualdj.com/download/trial.html

Sweet thanks for the info. Problem I have is if I go back to version 1.5 my current DJ software won't work properly and I already have issues with it. I have the Trial version now and I am just controling it using my mouse instead of the HC4500. I hope they patch it soon to work with 1.06

Honestly, the HC4500 is a great unit (and it has a few flaws too) but telling a user not to upgrade it's hardware because the software stops functioning with it is somehow wrong... VDJ 5.x code can work with the new firmware, while the new engine introduced in V6 (and it's supposed to be simple and built in a way to support ANYTHING NEW) does not... I don't really care as I have VJ 5.2.1 and I can't (nor I want to) upgrade to V6 but it still sounds WRONG!

Please don't bump an old topic from 2009 - Open your own new topic using the pen and paper icon at the top of the forum topic list.
You can download drivers and the latest firmware for the DN-HC4500 from Denon's website: http://www.denondj.com
You will need the full VirtualDJ Professional to use other MIDI controllers such as the Denon DN-HC4500. The version that you have now will only work with a Hercules DJ Console. You can upgrade at a discount by going to http://www.virtualdj.com/buy/index.html
