Tópico: Laptop freeze then tracks stuttering all night...

Este tópico es antiguo y puede contener información incorrecta para la nueva versión.

I recently changed my RMX setup from using the internal crossfader to running through an external mixer. However I also changed from WDM to ASIO. I then changed back to WDM and within 5mins the laptop completely locked up... Music kept playing though!

I rebooted the lappy and everything seemed fine but noticed tracks stuttering on loading a track on the other deck, but only when it was a track I was playing for the first time...

Would changing to ASIO have changed any of my VDJ performance settings?

Anyway have decided to take the opportunity to uninstall VDJ and the RMX drivers, defrag the laptop, do all my windows updates and upgrade from 5.2.2 to 6.0.2 which should reset everything.

Will make sure I give it a good run through this time rather than making a change at the start of a show ... ;-)

Any comments of the probable cause would be good though, to save me from making similar fubar's in the future...

Hi Roy,

The biggest culprits with this type of stuttering tends to be unscanned tracks, ASIO latency, and performance settings.

Try loading n unscanned track and compare the time it takes and the performance of the other deck as opposed to a scanned track - there's usually quite a difference, depending on the actual size of the track.

To see all of your unscanned tracks, you can create a filter folder by clicking the blue folder icon in the tree to the left of the browser window. Use the name "NOT scanned," for example and enter the command: isscanned=0 (see V6 manual, page 21). After you create the folder, and click on it, the unscanned tracks will appear in the browser. To scan them all, click one of the tracks, press CTRL+A to select all of them, right-click, then click "Scan for BPMs."

Many folks are using 96 for an ASIO buffer size with decent results. You can set this under the ASIO tab on your RMX control panel (DJ icon in the system tray->ASIO tab). Of course, if you're not using ASIO, this won't make a difference. You may or msy not already know that with the RMX, ASIO is enabled automatically without the user's knowledge when you tick the box next to "apply EQ to external inputs" in the sound setup tab of config.

A performance setting of "Fastest" (slider all the way to the left), with overclock and safe mode unchecked and latency set to "auto" has been a good way to solve many of the stuttering problems as well.

One more thing to consider is the version of your RMX drivers. The latest package, 2009_HDJS_3, came out in July, and can be found here.

Good luck with your issue ;)
