Ok gang,
Thanks to help from DJCel I have completed and released version 1.5 of "DJ Patterns"
Additions
* Playlist selection dialog starts when application starts. This means that there are two less clicks to start the process)
* Option to display Unused media. Be aware that use of this function can take some time! It is an option that comes up at the end of the initial scan, so you can avoid using it. It is also available from the file menu.
* The check for unused can be stopped and restarted. DJ Patterns checks for duplicates to avoid double listing an unused media.
* "Search Next" allowing the user to look for the next instance of a search
* Media details now includes Gain, Key and Comments.
* Media details are only show if there is data. For example: If there are comments but not Gain information the comments will be displayed, but not the Gain. (obviously). I rethought showing "N/a" when there was no information but this seemed unnecessary and distracting.
Bug fixes
* XML issues fixed
* Some minor code cleanup to help improve scan speed
* Fixed an issue with search
* Check "local" database(s) for media details
This is the be the final version of this application and it's functionality are going to be moved into my next application "DJT2" which I have already started working on the User Interface. The first version of that application will have the following abilities/features
* It will have the same features as "DJ Patterns" as well as the ability to filter by one or more Genres.
* It will be able to import media from The VDJ Database, media files or playlists. Once imported you will be able to sort, select and then export this information to Excel, CSV, WinAmp Playlists and possibly MS Access databases.
There have been some other features requested, and I am not ignoring those requests. The plan is to create this next instance of the application and get it out asap. After reviewing the requests and other posts to the boards it seems the import/export is the most requested application and after that is complete I can move onto other features.
Hope this helps and if you have requests or issues please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
James Rose

Version?
My database does not have that info, does yours? If so please send me a sample so I can include it. DJCel sent me an email this morning and it turns out I have two more bugs to fix (and I was rather stupid about them.... see what happens when I release on Fridays? ooops)
So, get me the info in the next 48 hours and I will be glad to include it.
Also, the next version of this app will include HTML as an export option. I forgot to state that. If there are other export options wanted please let me know.
Peace,
James
EDIT: It's been an hour and I fixed the bugs that DJCel found. I will wait until Monday in case you don't come back here to tell me what "Version" means.

ChuckNorris,
I will have HTML as an export option to the next version, so that should help you.
The next version of this app has been started and will be called "DJT2". It will allow you to import your VDJ database and select which media/tunes/etc that you want to export, and in a few different formats. (HTML, CSV, Excel, WinAmp playlists, etc)
This way you can use the collection of data to make playlists or better understand what you have played (so that you can play that again, or not, whichever you choose)
>>and how do you start? do you do a scan like the bpm?
I do not fully understand what you are trying to ask here, please elaborate. Feel free to PM me if you want. Otherwise I'll be back here no later than Sunday afternoon (I live in NYC if that helps your timetable)
Peace,
James

Hi James, there is "artiste" "title" "comment" "bpm" and so on, all I need is you add "versions". This way when I have a song in a few mixes, club mix, house mix, single verson, radio mix etc. I will be able to add this info in "version". I use "comment" to rate the songs.
Thanks.
John

John,
Currently I am pulling info from the VDJ Database and it does not have any "Version" data. It does contain a "Comments" field, but that info comes from the MP3 tags (I believe) but currently DJ Patterns only reads data from that XML file, it does not write any info to that file. I have been told by a rep from VDJ that they would prefer that I don't write any additional data to their file.
But you bring to mind an interesting thought: Maybe there is notes, version and other info to my own file and allow you users to save extra data. What do you think of this idea?

James, great idea. I really don't know how many DJ's are interested in "composer". Take a song like Don't stop the music, there are no less than 10 remixes, it will be an advantage to have "version" in the data base, so that the DJ can at a glance see the version he wants to play and drag it to the playlist. You can fill in the comment column yourself, and I would like to use the version column the same way.
James, thanks for listening to me and for your professional contribution.

I have been thinking (it could happen) and I would like a response for the users about the following idea.
Atomix would prefer that I do not affect their database (understandable) I can create the ability to add your own user "Tags" so that when you select a media you can add, change, delete, and filter by these tags. This info would be stored in a separate XML database.
Let me know what you think.
Thanks,
James
