Tópico: Beringer Eurolive B215D's Summer Heat Warning

Este tópico es antiguo y puede contener información incorrecta para la nueva versión.

I had these speakers for a little while, works great, sound is decent (ok), not the best though. For the budget, worked to get by. Did several gigs mostly indoors or late evening event, however, as soon as I had a outside gig where the temp. is hovering around 100 degrees, not a clound in the sky to find so temporary shelter from the sun. 2 hrs. into playing, left speaker goes out, then 5 minutes later, right speaker goes out. The crowd for very upset, I called my Guitar Center Rep. He says that maybe they overheated and needs to be put in shade. Well based on how it was setup I could only put one in the shade. About 10 mins. later after doing so, right side speaker comes on. then after unpluging left side speaker for about 15 mins it comes back on. Then left side speaker goes back off, so i'm stuck with just the right side speaker until the band comes and takes over. What an ordeal.
After doing some more research on the B215d, I discover that these series of speakers do not have a vent, or cooling grill/fins. On their website they do not address this issue and since then I have upgraded to the Mackie SRM450 speakers, which address's the heat issue on their site. They sound better, the bass is better, the highs are better, and now I dont have to worry about the overheating issue. So be very careful when selecting your speakers, funny thing I was prepared for all breakdown senario's except for the speakers.

Heat is the electronic amplifiers worst enemy

Not just in Behringer active speakers, but any amp. I worked at a club for many years that the AMP for the subs would overheat and cut out leaving only the mid-highs. Happened every summer. We had the fan from the amps going, a second fan on the amps and took the time to blow the dust out with a can of "air sweeper". They still cut out.

Glad you solved the issue with replacement. Unforseen problems can be irritating.

hmm. Have been using my B212a eurolives (same model, 5 yrs old, maybe older version?)

Again, 5 yr old, 450 watt active speakers, 12 in woofer. hundreds of gigs, many outside. Used them last week at an outdoor modeling gig and the heat was 96. Played 5 hours, not a single problem. Not sure how that happened to you, mine have been trouble free.

Well I have a pair of B300's and have lost two power supplies and an amplifier board and will never use them live.
In fact, the second PoS went out in my home theater and the shop that repaired it last time refuses to do anything to offset the short term failure.
We don't use them in the winter months because the room isn't heated, I might have 10 hrs on them since the last repair.
So they are going to get to keep it because I am done with them.

They were given to me to replace my Fender Passport that was repaired and returned looking like they dragged it behind the truck rather than inside it.
Beginning to understand why the dealer wanted to 'lose" them.

I wish I had read this before today. Was doing an outdoor gig and had the speakers cranking pretty loud and one cut out. I thought I pushed them too far. It came back on about 15 minutes later. A while later, the other cut out. This time I realized the sun was moving and each time, the one the cut out was in the sun while the other one was in the shade. It was only in the mid 80s but they were in direct sunlight when they went off. Both worked fine in the shade. Now I need to start looking for an alternative.

The Mackie SRM450s are a fantastic all around active speaker at an affordable price. I love mine because they sound great, are light weight and have never caused me a single problem.

Best of luck on finding an alternative.

You only have to expect this from cheap speakers made in China or worse India, you have to know the value of stuff. It's not feasible for them to be good at a price you can't even buy a decent used pair of speakers at.

I'm considereing purchasing theese to cover small to medium gigs (250 people). I'm on a tight budget that puts me in the $300-$400 per powered speaker. I've yet to hear a pair, but have seen an overwhelming number of positive reviews that say this is the best bang for your buck. On paper they seem like a perfect fit for starting out without seperate powered subs. Is this really the best bang for your buck for mobile applications. Are there better speakers on the market at this price point?

I have a set... I think they are pretty good for the price. I've got a pair of JBL 3 way standing speakers which I use as alternative which are hard to compare. Only comparison I can see at this price point is the mackie thumps.

Thing I like about them is they have a mixer on board. Gives me the freedom just to carry a controller and speakers. Backup is ipod directly to the speakers.

I have never used them outside directly in the sun so not aware of overheating issues.

Thanks! @l rids. I went into my local guitar center and put them to the test against the thumps. They both sounded very good but in my opinion the thump's low end stood out more. Can anyone vouch for the thumps? Down the road I plan on adding the thump powered sub to round out my sound system.

I've now seen various reviews and comments about how the Thump is not very loud. The reviews say that the thumps will not be loud enough for events with more than 50 people. i really liked the sound of the thumps and was leaning toward buying the thump powered sub. but if this set up does not crank loud enough for more than 50 people than it doesn't sound like a good investment considereing the lack of headroom.

Would the Behr's be that much louder and have the ability to do events for 100 people? Also I see the Behringer B1800D PRO Eurolive Active Subwoofer online but can't find it in any local stores. Is it not a good choice? If not what sub would you reccomend I pair with the BD 15's?
