Tópico: Need a New Mixer (VJ)

Este tópico es antiguo y puede contener información incorrecta para la nueva versión.

Hi, I play small venues, Around 100-300 People about 3 X a Month, I just started doing Videos. The problem is my Numark DXM09 has no Midi support. This is a problem when cross fading mp4's, I have to be real creative and use effects and keyboard for song transitions.

What moderately priced controller/mixer would be best for me, I'm using a huge Odyssey FZ12CDXW coffin. ( My Timecode Controllers are (2) Numark CDX's)

I'm looking for fader midi control, maybe some effect buttons, Hi, Mid, Low Control (3 Channels would be best, But if the price is Right I could deal with only 2)

Thanks

whats moderately priced to you?

300-500 USD range - Functionality is Important - Crossfader has to perform when doing Video (Soundcard will be SSL1) So I Need 4 In 4 Out

*Note been looking at the VMS4 - Will This do what I need it to do, Including (2) Numark CDX's? (Whats the Built in Soundcard Like?)*

I will strongly suggest Denon DN-X1600 Mixer. It has 8ins/8outs bulit in soundcard (great audio output!!!), works as a midi-controller, and have fabulous effects. I have 2CDXs too (for home practice) and 2HDXs for live gigs (I don't even need timecode CDs for these ones).
Goodluck on your new mixer to be.

The X1600 is $1000. For $300 to $500 I'd say VMS4 or Hercules. The VMS4 is the only thing that comes close as a "real" mixer that the fader is upgradeable. Every any other midi mixer out there is at least in the $800 and up . If your lucky you might be able to find a Pioneer DJM700 for $650 used.

This is new and should be available: Denon $699 DN-x600 Sound card + midi http://www.pssl.com/!gKoo7w3iumXjShTodXe2-A!/Denon-DN-X600-2-Channel-Digital-DJ-Mixer-s

I really don't like the midi/usd config on those Denon's. I tried the x1600, man I just couldn't get it to work. Garbled sound, Blue screens, can easily turn off midi mode/sound card. I'm willing to try the x600, maybe Ill have better luck or maybe not. Well, I could easily get midi to work, so if you are using the external SSL-1 audio shouldn't be an issue.

Another option $899, still out of the price range http://www.djdeals.com/vestaxPMC05PROIV.htm

thanks,

If your already gonna spend 500bucks you might as well save another 300 or 400 and get what you need. No sense in playing around. A mixer is an important part of your equipment.....................

Dont cut corners

What about the ddm 4000 from behringer it's midi it's around 400..

An analog mixer works just fine for video when you use a midi command for video crossfade.
I use a full out video mixer and only because I use live inputs and a dvd player also.
Occasionally I use a video effect to cover, but that too can be done in the software.

But normally, I use the keyboard down arrow to transition when the mix is ready, even if I use it partially and then complete later.
To be honest, running a fader for video and one for audio is a bit much to manage if you've ever had a Numark DMC 2 to use.
Even then, when its time to fade the video you do so, its not like the audio at all in that sense and as I said with one button you can command a 25% with a momentary double stab of the key and a full with just one touch.
Works pretty slick.

Thanks For you Input People,...I can now make an informed decision.

@mp3jrick - Yeah I already use a analog mixer, and keyboard to do video, the problem lies in the fact you can't hear the next video till you tap the fader over a bit. I feel our performance is suffering VJ'n this way. (Hence a Midi Mixer)

I made fun of my buddy that uses this setup, we did a High School dance, he was hunched over the laptop the entire time, it looked funny.
We actually considered going back to straight mp3's because of this.
