I have a Toshiba Core Duo Centrino w/ 4gb DDR2 laptop.
Currently, running Windows 7 Home Premium x86 and seems a bit wimpy at times.
The experience index is 3.1 mainly b/c of the internal video. Otherwise, would be 3.9 or 4.1
I do not have fancy hardware, only a DAC-3 and generic hub and generic USB audio device.
No fancy software but some there are no 64bit versions.
So, my question is given the above, what would the best version for optimum DAW performance and would 64 bit give me any advantage over 32?
Thanks!

IMO you're running the 'best' version for your requirements. Although 64-bit can support some more memory, it comes at the cost of all programs using more memory as pointers are double the size - not all DJ hardware has fully supported 64-bit drivers either, although this is rare now. This is similar to Professional and Ultimate editions of Windows 7; they're technically better although run more services which you don't need.
System tuning will get you a long way. How many processes does your computer run once it's fully loaded? I'm at 101 right now on my development machine, but an optimized system would be running nearer to 40. More important is DPC latency, try running the DPC Latency Checker and disabling hardware such as bluetooth to see if it has a noticeable effect.

i now use blue tooth constantly (it's my connection from the phone to FireText )
so i would add that , it seems to me , some of the old adages that applied to XP OR a 32 bit OS
don't necessarily apply to 64 bit
i currently have 3 Windows 7 64 bit Home Prem systems
