Tema: VirtualDJ Folder installs to different places on different computers

Este tópico es antiguo y puede contener información incorrecta para la nueva versión.

I have installed VirtualDJ Home 7.0.4 on both my iMac and MacBook Pro, both of them running OS 10.6.7.

The "VirtualDJ" folder (which contains Cache, Devices, Languages, Playlists etc.) installs to "User"/Library/ on the iMac but to "User"/Documents/ on the MacBook Pro. This doesn't cause any problems (other than spending a lot of time trying to find it on the iMac!), I just like to know what's going on and I can't understand why this would happen. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling on both computers and that particular folder is always put in the same place.

If I had a choice I'd use "User"/Library/ on both computers as I prefer to keep the "Documents" folder for, well, documents.

Anyone have any ideas?

In the latest versions of the software /users/YOURNAME/Library is used to be compliant with Apple's standards.

Older versions used /users/YOURNAME/Documents, so if you have upgraded from an older version, then it will continue to use this location. It will not cause any problems.

To change, you would need to uninstall the software, delete the file /Users/YOURNAME/Library/Preferences/com.atomixproductions.virtualdj.plist and then move the VirtualDJ folder from Documents to Library

Re-install the software again and it should now use the new Library location.

Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately that didn't work. I uninstalled and then separately deleted the plist file as you suggested, then copied the offending VirtualDJ folder from Documents to Library. I then trashed the folder in Documents.

On reinstalling, a new VirtualDJ folder was created in Documents (the Library version still exists) and that is the one that the program accesses.

You need to move Documents\VirtualDJ to Library (Not copy), so that it no-longer exists under Documents, otherwise VirtualDJ will see this folder and will assume that you have an old installation.

When you re-install the software, make sure that it is the latest v7.0.4: http://www.virtualdj.com/download/free.html

Still no luck.

I thought I had effectively moved the folder before by copying it to a new folder and then deleting the original. No matter: this time I moved it as you suggested and again reinstalled after deleting the plist file. But the effect was the same. A new VirtualDJ folder was created in Documents and the program accesses this, ignoring the folder that has been moved to Library.

Surely there has to be another file somewhere that is telling the program to do this. Maybe from my previous installation of v 7.0.3 ?

I am using version 7.0.4 now.

Teamer, after all of these procedures If I copy the old VirtualDJ folder in user library will I be able to retain all the cues points, BPMs, and the playlist as before?

Because I am trying that, but the program is no longer able to recognize the modified mappers, other user created skins, I made in the old Virtual DJ folder in Documents.

I know that it will keep playlists and bpm. In my case the custom skins were also carried over. I imagine that it will keep cue points too but, as I'm a new user, I haven't got that far with it yet. For your own security, just make a copy of the folder before you move it. Then you can always put it back if something goes wrong!

However, I'm still having my problem. I deleted the program and plist file, moved my VirtualDJ folder to Library (this doesn't get deleted with the program). I reinstalled the program and it just put another empty VirtualDJ folder in Documents, ignoring the folder that I moved. So I moved my original folder back from Library to Documents and all my playlists, bpm and custom skins were intact.

Hope that helps. I've had no further ideas from support regarding my (albeit small) problem.
