Hello everyone! I am a proud user of virtual DJ and am very happy with the product. I have been using version 5 for many years with the Denon DN-the HC 4500 and Mapper v1.3 Author: jpboggis. I have been holding back on the upgrade to 7 because I was worried about mapping the controller as I was so used to jpboggis mapper.

I have read everything I can about mapping and I am almost there, just had a question. All I really care about is control over my folders (which the factory settings mapper is perfect), SYNC and pitch_reset.

The problem I am having is after I SYNC (which I got to work) and I want to reset the pitch back to the songs original %. With my older version, 5.0 when hitting pitch_reset, it would only adjust the pitch and go back to normal. Now when I hit pitch_reset it also moves the elapsed/remaining time of the song as well. Almost like its fast forwarding or rewinding the song as it adjusts the pitch. Even if the song is not playing and I hit pitch_reset, it will start moving the timing of the song. When the volume is up and I hit it NO SOUND comes out, although it does move the time of the song.

Sorry if I am confusing, anyone having this problem? Is the setting I am looking for not called pitch_reset?

It's normal for the time elapsed/remaining to increase or decrease appropriately as you adjust the pitch of a song (Or VirtualDJ adjusts it on your behalf with pitch_reset.)

I.e: If you increase the pitch to +5% (Either by moving the pitch slider manually or as a result of pressing SYNC to automatically match the other deck), the song is now playing 5% faster, so will be 5% shorter in real time. VirtualDJ is always showing the 'real' time elapsed/remaining, taking any pitch adjustment into account.

In the old DLL mapper, you could choose between showing this real time or not (Earlier native mappers in VirtualDJ did not take pitch adjustment into account.)

If you don't want the adjustment to be shown, simply change the mapping get time_min to get time_min "absolute", get time_sec to get time_sec "absolute" and get time_ms to get time_ms "absolute"

If you are able to audibly hear the pitch adjustment as pitch reset is in progress, make sure that you have keylock turned on (Padlock next to the pitch sliders on the default skin.)

Thank you, that is exactly what I was talking about. Also thank you for the quick responce!

The padlock should always be on to make it sound better in your opinion? Most of my mixes will be done through sync and then pitch_reset if the bpm's are close enough, I would love to make it sound the best.

Silly question but the changes I make are always saved to the XML file in the mappers section of my virtual DJ folder? So I dont have to reset this every time I start the program?

This is another silly question but should I change my "options" and "performances" settings at all? For all of the years I have been using Cue and Virtual DJ I never touched anything in those menu's, I just leave them as the default settings from when I install. Am I missing out on something?

Anything else I should know about hc-4500 or the program? :-)

If you are using SYNC/pitch_reset, then it's best to have keylock on so that there is no audible change in pitch of the song. Make sure that you enable Advanced Stretching in CONFIG -> Options for best sound quality (Unless your computer is not fast enough to cope.)

Your custom mapper is saved automatically as you make changes. If this is not the case, check the permissions of your VirtualDJ folder (See http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/VirtualDJ%20Folder%20Permissions.html )

Also, make sure that you make a backup of your mapping as well as a regular backup of your database and music collection. See http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/Backup%20Database.html

If everything is working well for you, then you should not change any settings (Except for Advanced Stretching above, which will improve the quality of keylock considerably.)
