I have a couple of songs that are 30 - 40 minutes live. When virtual dj scans the bpms it calculates it wrong becuase the BPM keep changing in the song. Is there a way where virtual dj will keep on changing the bpm as the song changes?

Unfortunately VDJ isn't that smart.

And as far as I know, there is no other DJ software that is aware of tempo changes.

It's just assumed that a song will always have just one steady tempo and one key (and in VDJ that the key will be minor!).

I suggest that you find yourself a stand alone BPM counter which reads the tempo 'live' as the track plays.

I can't use a standalone BPM Counter becuase Im using a Denon MC6000. I have no way of routing

Yes you can.

One way is to feed the headphone output into the BPM counter. Some BPM counters are actually headphone amps too.

Or feed the 'record' or 'booth' output to it....

They're not so common now, but they do exist.

I think there are actually android and iphone apps that do quick bmp counting

Or you could tap the beat for 15 seconds then multiply that number by 4 and BOOM, there's your bpm. Depending on your math skills it should take you all but 30 seconds........

A skill every Dj should have even though we have programs that do it for you........

Yeah, fine if the beat stays constant during those 15 seconds that you're counting, or for the other 45 seconds after you've stopped counting..........but for tempos that vary (which is what the poster was asking) it would be just as inaccurate as the single BPM that VDJ calculates.

If you're working with continuously varying tempos and need to keep an eye on the BPM then something which counts 'live' is the only way.

Some mixers have live counters, so do effects units and samplers, and there are dedicated counters too.

This is where old school DJing comes into play. Beat match by ear and ride the pitch faders.
