Shit, now I'm wondering if Axwell doesn't play with buttons that don't do a little shit when he pushes or turns them in his live sets... Look at those videos :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yv9oER1tgDA Axwell - One (Live @Indigo Collioure)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4zbmW9qYiMU Axwell - Every Teardrop is a Waterfall (SHM remix @ Queen Club, I'm especially worried about this one...)
Tell me what you think about it, I really wanna get to the bottom of the point...

All I can say is, he is very energetic, for just one song. I am laughing really hard. I'll let others decide. We all have different styles, cultures, live in different countries. What works for you, may not work for me. I am also animated when I get into the zone. However, I just do my sets differently. To each his own.

In fact, this thread explains perfectly why I feel a bit embarassed when my friends call me "DJ"... It's because me too I push the play button most of the time (except when I do live mashups)...
You know...
I'm not this : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UennpSV2lck
I'm clearly not this : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Q2f3HxoFTA
Thank god, I'm not event this ! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1n_E4sDewtM
I'm just a ****ing button pusher... Great. But I never pretended myself as a very good DJ, I don't know how to scratch. I just beatmatch most of the time, it happens me to do some cuts and live mashups.

This debate always gets out of hand, it's quite impressive.
Deadmau5 doesn't really seem to do much when he's playing live. He's up there on his mau5 platform and most of his sets seem to be pre-recorded, or at least pre-planned (although, to be fair, most artists such as him will do this, because that's what makes the most sense - it would be a different story if he were the resident DJ at some club and had to play day in and day out).
70% of his show is about its visual aspect. You know, the mau5head, all the lazers and images going on in the background, etc. Then, it's just a matter of mixing his own music to form a one or two hour set, and he's off to the races. It's not his mixing skills that earn him all that money anyway.
As for the whole who's a DJ and who's not a DJ thing, I'm not even gonna touch that subject, because it's just getting annoying by now. I will say, though, that being in the DJ booth simply pressing play and just moving your arms around isn't enough. I love playing with effects. I love delays, echoes, filters, flangers, loop and beat rolls, backspins, reverb, all that stuff. I love making transitions a little more interesting by adding said effects. It builds up atmosphere and gets people really pumped for what's ahead. In the end, you want to have fun, and it's an awesome feeling when you improvise a little on the spot and the rewarding smile on your own face when the result gets people even more excited.

The Only effecct That I use is the filter, love it ! I'll use More effects by the future, for smoother transitions than with a simple filter with 80% of resonance ;p

Deadmou5 is someone that plays Pre sets and mixes music thats not even hard to mix.. If he mixed off of my laptop, he wouldnt know what to do. Try mixing salsa, merengue, Bachata, Hip Hop, Reggae, R&B, Disco, Reggaeton, Latin Rock, pop, Mainstream, freestyle, doo woop, etc.. I know he cant.

A pianist is a button pusher... all 88 of them
He plays other peoples music and also creates his own.
Not an artist?
Mixing is an art, period.
Pushing play and jumping about with your hands in the air, is not.
