I realize this is a larger than the average size laptop. That's why I am wondering of anyone knows of or has used a good sturdy one. When I search and I see the pictures I notice that those laptops are smaller. Any suggestions?

I am only using a 15.5 inch laptop so can't say for sure about a 17 inch. I use a Crane Laptop stand. Not the pro, just the basic one. It is extremely sturdy and takes the weight of my laptop without any problems. If I had a 17 inch laptop I would have no concerns about putting on this stand. Got the stand for £59 so it's not the cheapest of stands but there are also a lot that are much more expensive.

Just about any stand will work with this.

@TigerBlueDJ- I was looking at that brand. They do look like they would hold the weight of my laptop. But they look like they require to be slipped under a case, and I currently dont have one for my rmx. If I decide to get a case at the same time then I get one of those.
@asthedj- Thanks for the tip. I will definitely keep that in my when I order.

I got myself one of these Lavolta stands (clicky) and love it to bits...
It's extremely light weight, has two cooler fans and has soooo many configurations so you can adapt the height and angle to your hearts content...
I have a Samsung RF7 laptop and it fits really well. The compartment at the front - where you would keep the USB lead for the fans doubles up as a plate to stop the laptop sliding forwards and is foam backed so the lappy won't get scratched.
Best part about this stand... I paid less that £30 from SmartParts via their ebay page...
Cheers,
Roy

I used to use an Odyssey L Stand . . . not the folding one. I worked out fine, but that was a pain to transport. I use an Ultimate Support Hyperstation now. Heavy as hell, but sturdy. And enough depth to fully support my laptop.

It can go under a case but my desktop isn't deep enough from front to back to use it safely like that so I have it at the side.
The first time I used it I taped it down to the desktop too be sure it didn't move but since then I haven't and it doesn't move.
I love the fact that it folds up completely flat and there is no fitting it together with nuts and bolts, just open it out and it clicks into place.
Even fits into either of my laptops bags too.
Hope you get a stand you like and let us know how you get on.

That's a funky looking stand. Price is good too.

So here's what it looks like flat
You can configure it lots of ways, here's an early "low" setting. I have issues with this due to balance - but I think that will be laptop dependent. I have found a low config ow that works really well, but I don't have a photo of that at the moment.
For this event I had a low table to work from, so set the stand to maximum height
And finally with the 17" lappy on top. Even at this height, it felt sturdy and didn't wobble.

So no wobble huh! I found some almost exact on Amazon(trying to avoid eBay, have never purchased anything from there). Except they didn't have a built in fan. Will definitely keep in mind thanks.

Go straight to www.smartparts.co.uk and search for Lavolta.
It was their ebay shop I bought from...
