Have been saving up for a rainy day, and the money is burning a hole in my pocket. The truth is, I just want to buy something. I also started at a new club, the first of the year, and was supposed to start at a new club last night, but was snowed out. These are actually dance clubs, so I need to speed up my performance, and don't want to use the keyboard as much. I was looking at controllers, but decided I can wait for something better. Disappointed in the new MC6000 MK2, and although I like the DDJ SZ, I still think there is more to come, in a very short time. So, I decided I want an effects controller. I thought about the Launchpad, but then the RMX 1000 & RMX 500 came out. First, if I got the Launchpad, could I still use one of the RMX units at the same time? Actually, after I wrote this, I believe I can, but would like your input anyway. Second, I have seen the reviews and looked at a few videos, is there anything I can't do with the RMX 500, that I can with the RMX 1000?

Pioneer is def the way to go,
I just got the SR and it has fx knobs and buttons, think of it as an update to the RMX.

I was thinking about this the other day. Granted this is not exactly what your looking for. I think you can do just about everything with the 500 you can do with the 1000 however, I feel like looking at the lay out of the 1000 it would be easier to control everything on the fly, as well as perform the same functions faster, rather than fiddle around with a more compact, complex in someways design. Just my thoughts.
I think the next wave of modifications that Pioneer might make. Again this is just a thought.
I think they are going to incorporate some of the functions of the SZ into the next wave CDJ2000 nexus MKxx for example.
The ability to plug in two computers to the CDJ2000 deck systems. with a few other upgrades.
While I know we talked about the SZ before. I speculate that it will be awhile for the More to come for that like system. Sure they are working on prototypes as we speak for their next series. Or maybe they even have their next series completed and are working way in advance its hard to tell.
However, like what we discussed earlier that they are going to milk it for all that it is worth. Now it is limited I feel like by the software abilities of main stream softwares. Unless you decided to embark upon an advantageous adventure of your own making your own programs to suit just your needs.
Here is my thoughts on the SZ you might take a few hundred dollar hit when you go to sell the gear later, but Pioneer really does hold their value even used. Assuming you take care of the equipment, which I have no doubts in my mind you do.
With that being said. Lets say that if you buy the decks for 1900 if you take even a 400 dollar hit when you go to sell the SZ so you sell it for 1500. In theory you should have easily made your money off of the initial investment time and time again. thus the 400 dollar hit is not even a big deal.
So say the next deck system is 2000 you just have to have the 500 to make up the difference from the SZ that you just sold. Again this shouldn't be a big deal. So in all reality you haven't lost much of anything. Just my thoughts.

A man and his music I edited my first post in the first paragraph to my thoughts. ;) I would personally go with the 1000 if i was going to buy it my reasons are kinda explained.
Not because the 1000 is more expensive or has a higher number than the 500 I just feel the 1000 would be easier for me to use and better laid out etc.

Actually after further review, I have found out a few differences. The 1000 has 1/4 RCA ins and outs. It also has the isolation effects, and the x pad effects. The release effects toggle is variable, giving you a little something extra. It only has 4 instruments, as the 500 has 5. However, you are right, it does seem to offer a little more flexibility and ease of use. Now, I just need to go play with them, to get the feel. I don't expect a new Pioneer controller for Serato, anytime soon, but what about for VDJ 8? POW, that's what I'm talking about. It could be wishful thinking, but all of these companies have made more money building controllers for VDJ, than any other software combined. Why would they stop now. Maybe they are waiting for 8 to drop, just like we are.

Another thing. Part of my problem is, I rarely sell anything. I use every bit of juice out of my equipment. I am just starting to sell stuff, that I know I will never use again, but believe me, I have made plenty of money of off this stuff.

I would be silly to buy something that suits your needs at the moment, and run out and buy something newer a month later, You may not have had the time to make the most money out of your investment.
But in the case of the SZ lets say you have it for a year. I think you should be able to easily make your money back off of the unit numerous times in that time frame. Say the SZ mk xx comes out (which I almost doubt that they will do the Mk xx thing as it probably will confuse the general public too much) Regardless the newer updated version comes out say a year later.

But don't be like some dj's who buy something new every month just to have it and sell what ever you had before. With out making your money on the item. Heck if you are feeling slightly charitable, you can help someone else who is or was dreaming of owning a SZ in this case but never seems to have more than a 1k to spend on something. You would give someone like that a heck of a deal, make their dreams come true. And you still are coming out ahead.
I sometimes sell very cheaply or give away my old laptops when I get new ones to friends or people who are truly in need of a machine for school etc. (yes I delete all the DJ Softwares off of them when I do this.) I decided to get the RMX 1000, and even contacted some of my peps to get a discount. Fortunately, I also got some more info, which made me take another look. As you all know, VDJ 8 will have some enhancements to it's sampler. This is not a secret, and has been shown at various venues. I DO NOT HAVE A BETA YET, so forgot about these features. I also believe but DO NOT HAVE ANY KNOWLEDGE FIRST HAND that there will be a lot of new controllers, when 8 drops. So, I have decided to get the Launchpad S in the mean time. This will give me some of the functionality and flexibility I need right now. I can always get the RMX 1000 later, if the new controllers don't have what I need. Then again, I could change my mind tomorrow, because I do like it. Terry, I sent you a lil somein somein, to your PayPel account, Playa. You know how we roll.
Plus I'm still waiting to hear back about the discount. They also have a free x stand, if you buy it now. I like a deal.

I would get a numark orbit over a launchpad for djing, it has a knob and as many buttons when you factor in the four layers.

I guess my question to you is why do you think that there will be a lot of new controllers made just for VDJ 8? Wouldn't something from like Midi Fighter type gizmo add on work to midi map for these new functions?
If the the sampler is all that, various midi fighter type devices might very well be more beneficial and cost substantially less than the RMX 1000.
I am very much anticipating VDJ 8.

Had a RMX 1k for over a year, they're around for $500 if you hunt.
It takes quite a while to get used to, but instant remix on the fly is wicked.
Better be counting when you go deep into the effects, but that toggle switch is nifty for dropping back in on time.

Found a Launch Pad S on Craig's list with cover, for $100. I'm not rich, but that is not a lot of money to me. If it doesn't work out, I can still get the RMX 1000. Pick it up tomorrow, if the snow isn't too bad. The Numark unit is too small for me. The reason I believe there will be new controllers is simple. Every company has made more money selling controllers for Virtual DJ, then all the other softwares combined. What, you think all of a sudden they don't like to make money? It just makes sense to me.

by purchasing a license - then getting gigs - then cashing checks or depositing them in the bank to pay for music, equipment, advertising, more music, more equipment, more advertising, more music, newer equipment, a lot more advertising, newer music and videos, newer and better equipment, even more advertising and promotional items, more music and more videos, more equipment to keep up with expanding business, advertising to spread the good news that you have a popular and successful dj company, more music, videos, and hard drives to store it all on and make backups so you don't lose any of it "just in case", more equipment - including vehicles to transport all of it since mom's minivan won't do anymore, and then there's the (hopefully) tax-deductible travel costs from going to trade shows, wear and tear on vehicles, wear and tear on people (you need insurance for you and your employees also) and all the other fun little expenses from running a business.
