I have spent a while to install and configure a PC laptop to be used as a backup laptop for VDJ8.
A fresh install on a formated drive, Windows 7 professional.
It's a Sony Vaio VPCEB2S1E, Intel i3 at 2.26MHz, with separate Graphics.
Problem is, I get high latency according to DPC checker. I have peaks of 2mS and sometimes 500uS.
I have done everything I know to get rid of the high latency.
I have disabled everything that's not necessary incl networks (both cable and wifi), built in HD sound card, SD card reader, and so on, even USB ports disabled.
The BIOS is the most recent version.
It's configured for maximum performance.
In Latencymon I can see ACPI.SYS is doing much of the latency. But this is necessary for Windows.
I also tried to change the performance for "background tasks" instead of programs, with no difference.
When running the VDJ PC-optimizer tool, does not affect the high latency peaks.
I'm stuck...

There are 36 processes running (without VDJ)

That's pretty low but bare bones is low 20's, I'm not sure where you can go, other than killing unneeded services.

But the problem seems to be services inherent to Windows.
And those are not possible to disable..

Thanx guys.
I already tried latencymon and could only see Windows processes take up most of the latency.
The grafix is not possible to disable, since I would not see anything on the screen then :)

If you disable the video it stops using the drivers from the card and switches to windows video drivers

Did you set your powermanagment to highest power?
If so, remove your battery and try again with the latencymon.

Yes, it is set to highest performance.
So, removing the battery might affect things?
A thought: If the ASIO buffer is set to 10mS, does it really mean it's "immune" to temporary high latency, "up to 10mS" ?

What's stated in first post.
Process "ACPI.SYS" is doing some 2mS peaks from time to time...

Mainboard drivers up to date?
Do you use the Win driver or manufacturer driver?

I disabled the ACPI battery management in dev manager but then I cannot see the battery level and I don't know if the charging works at all.
Anyway - I think it should be possible to have those up and running anyway.
(By the way, the peaks were coming very seldom after this routine were disabled, but still a 2mS peak every minute or so)
I have not yet connected the laptop to my audio gear, I want it all to be running nicely first.
The mainboard drivers are the latest available.

My ACPI.SYS runs at 0.01ms
My latency problems come from my wireless setup (ndis.sys). It's peaks do not affect my performance, but I disable the device in device manager before a gig. My internet access is done by a cabled solution.

I was gutted when M$ dropped HW profiles, such a odd choice.
@Jackson, have a google for "processes traktor" it'll find the absolute minimum processes you can run a music program (low 20's iirc)

My ACPI is hitting 1.7 ms but it doesn't hit audio output.
Run it thru your gear you might be fretting about nothing.

Yes, the same here. NDIS driver peaks whopping 6mS in bursts every 30 seconds or so. This was an easy task to disable though.
Haven't seen a problem using the cable driver.
