Tema: Sampler (Sync) Bug in Version 8 - Page: 1

Esta parte del tópico es antigua y puede contener información incorrecta para la nueva versión.

NOTE: This problem does not surface if your using a Single Speaker output.
I use 2 USB soundcards and send a Deck 1 output and a Deck 2 output to the mixer at the club. I like using their Pioneer 800 mixer for the effect, etc.
I used to have a 'sample' in Version 7 called 'beats' and I would bring it in as needed to quiet portions of a track.
If I was playing Deck 1 and had the beat-bed running, I could load a track (of any bpm) into deck 2 and cue it, sync it, loop it, whatever - it never messed up the sync of the beat bed running in sync with deck 1. <== And, if you pitched up or down deck 1, the beat bed followed the changes.
Not the case in version 8. In the above example, all is well until you load and play deck 2. The beat-bed seems to adopt the bpm of deck 2 while you're still playing deck 1. Instant trainwreck.
Note: you can change your mind and unload deck 2 & the beat sampler will not return to the rate of deck 1 and will not "stay with it" if you make any pitch changes while it's playing.
I realize that anyone using the VDJ crossfader system as a mixer does not experience this, perhaps as well as those using the mixer on their controller (which would correspond to VDJ's mixer on screen. But for those of us who use two soundcards (VDJ crossfader always at 50%), this appears to be a bug. Version 7 did not have this problem.
Thoughts/ideas ? I'd like to not have to stop using my beat-bed, it comes in very handy.
Thanks!

Update: Further testing reveals that the sampler beats WILL follow deck 1, but not deck 2.
You can start from a fresh program start, load song in deck 2, play. Adjust pitch up and down, beats do not follow.
If that helps...

What is your sampler output set to?

Set to 0, and outputs to both channels in the mixer as it needs to. I've tested all that stuff too. If you change that value to 1, you get just the deck one beats, if to 2, you get deck two.
Set to 0, get both.
Weird that simply loading and playing deck two (for cueing) will alter the sampler rate to the master out.

I've just tested here with a dual soundcard setup:

* Load track in deck 1, hit go on kick, syncs with deck 1
* Load track on deck 2, hit go on kick, syncs with deck 1 still

Which one is used as the master depends on the crossfader and volume faders too. Say the crossfader was centered, then the highest volume deck would be the master.

If you're using an external mixer and the internal controls are not being moved, then the master deck will move as they are played.

The only oddity I did notice was the opposite of what you were saying, it seemed to favour deck 1 for me (levels 100%, crossfader 50%):

* Load deck 1, play, start kick, syncs to deck 1
* Load deck 2, play kick syncs to deck 1
* Stop deck 1, kick syncs to deck 2
* Start deck 1, kick syncs to deck 1

I will have a look more on this.

Thank you Scott! I will have another look too, as I didn't know there was a connection with the individual volume sliders. I may have been corrupting my testing by turning them down (to better hear the beats). They're always up full for gigs.
Please let me know what you find out...

Update Scott: Volume sliders up full, no change.
DJ-in-Norway suggested custom button on skin to say "deck x masterdeck". No change.
He also suggested a change to Autoheadphones (to always). No change.
And check this out. I even moved the VDJ crossfader to 'right'; loaded track on 2. Started beats. No match.
This is making me crazy; I want to use 8 really bad...

So let me get this straight:

* Open VDJ
* Move crossfader to the right
* Load track on deck 2, hit play
* Start kick sample

That doesn't sync? If so something's wrong - I'd recommend renaming your settings.xml and retesting.

What you said is what it does. By renaming, I can just rename it to "settings2" and re-run the program?

So Scott, now we're getting somewhere.
The good news, a new settings file fixed the problem. Also, you couldn't 'edit' a sample file before. You couldn't 'save the changes'. Now you can and it appears the sync with deck 2 is working.
The bad news, I saved the old xml file because (as I suspected) I lost everything. Skin, buttons, everything.
Is there a 'section' in the xml file that covers this function that I can replace in my old file? I'd like to not start from scratch if I don't have to. I've configured a ton of stuff this week...

Well, found the problem, but have no idea how to fix it.
Started all new setting file. Reconfigured everything, then added my Behringer CMD-DC1 controller.
Fire up VDJ without the controller attached, no problems. With the controller attached, the above problem appears.
Can't think of why that would be. Controller has a button to "Sampler 1 play_stop", and an associated volume level of same.
It's in one of those 'shared function' button rows so the map says "action_deck 1 ? sampler 1 play_stop : etc etc.
If you execute the commands from the keyboard (with the controller attached... no good.
?

OK, delete that last message. Did a test this morning on just the keyboard, no controller attached.
Same problem.
I made a video of what it is doing.
Let me know if it would be helpful.

Yet another update on this issue. I wish I could delete previous messages because further testing seems to change things.
Had to gig over the weekend on Version 7, but still want to get on 8 as soon as possible.
Forget the controller connection to the problem. When you said rename the settings file, I did. It creates a blank setup file and the problem is not evident using a virgin settings file.
Then I configure it for use with my environment, and the problem reappears. I've done this three times now and have even made a video of it if you want to see what it is doing.
It's on my desktop now with no controller connected.
1. Start up 'kick' as a beat bed.
2. Load track on deck 1. When you press play, you. can even hear the kick sample 'stutter' quickly as it aligns itself with the track. All good.
3. Unload track and stop the kick effect.
4. Restart the kick effect and load same track on deck 2. Press play.
5. The sampler does NOT stutter to align and both the track and the kick sample play, wandering in and out of sync as the song plays.
It's easy to say 'You have a problem in your settings file' (because a new file won't demonstrate the problem), but I don't understand how simply configuring my environment is causing the system to lose what has become a critical function for me.
I'd be happy to send anyone in development the video, copies of settings files, etc.
Very much wanting to get this resolved and get cooking on Version 8. I love some of the new features and want to switch over.
Thanks Scott and all others watching this thread...
:-)

I don't see this issue here. What version of Vdj 8 are you using and which samples? Also send me the link for the video to check it out.

ok i checked the video.
How are your sampler settings set? Mine are at trigger mode: On/Off and audio output: master. Are yours like that as well? If yes then get back that settings xml file and try another sampler.next step would be to send me screen shots of all your settings.

Can I email you the settings.XML file or do you need the individual grabs?

you settings xml file looks works fine... Something is wrong with your PC. Can you send the specs and what else you have installed on your machine. I've checked with another 4 people and no issue like this anywhere.
