It may seem a daft question, but.....The VMS4.1 has Xlr and RCA outputs for main and also RCA outputs for the booth.
Can I use the Xlr to go to powered speakers AND use the RCA to feed a seperate amplifier to drive passive speakers?
Will there be a drop in signal output doing this, i.e. lower volume produced?

Yes you could do this, and yes the RCAs are probably at a lower level (consumer vs pro) - check the manual/spec sheet.
Another alternative is just to use the XLR and split the signal elsewhere. Powered speakers (and amps) often have "pass thru" link sockets, so you could feed the VMS into the amp, then link from the amp to the powered speakers (or VMS -> powered speakers -> amp).
