Hi, I'm very very new to DJing/Virtual DJ and I'm having a problem finding the option to enable Advanced Stretching (so I can change pitch with keylock on without the sound dissolving into muck). All I've seen on here is to go to Config->Performance->Advanced Stretching, but I don't see anything about either Fast or Advanced Stretching in my performance section. For reference, I'm currently using the most recent version of Virtual DJ 8 and going through the Settings menu (top right corner) -> Options -> Performance section.
Also, I'm currently using the program without any external mixers/controllers at the moment as mine is being repaired - does this maybe make a difference?
Thanks!

In VirtualDJ 8 the option is called pitchQuality.
The default is 2, which is similar to Advanced Stretching in VDJ7.
If you have a fast computer, and are using VDJ8 build 3780 or higher, you can also use pitchQuality 3, which sounds even better at very big pitch changes.

Thanks! I'm using a decent machine, but it isn't fully optimized for DJing (like I said, I'm new and seeing if it's worth getting into further at this point), and I have b.3752 - haven't been given the option to update to 3780. Currently running at pitchquality 2 and there's pretty heavy distortion with even very small (2%) pitch changes. Will moving up to 3 create any kind of problem if I were to try it?

If you have heavy distortion at 2% there must be something else that's not right.
In your audio config, if you are using ASIO, open the ASIO control panel and try to increase the latency/buffer size and see if that improves things.

*sorry - let me rephrase. For ASIO, it's set to Yes in my performance settings... Honestly, other than turning that to No, I'm not sure how to change it/what to change it to. Any advice would be very helpful. Thanks!

A bit more info to go on: In switching UltraLatency to No and PitchQuality to 3, there is definitely a BIG positive difference, but I'm still losing some quality and depth on the low end. Thanks again for the info and apologies if this is a real timewaster of an issue - I'm learning a whole new language here, and it's confusing sometimes!

How far are you pushing things?
It's never going to be 100% perfect, as the further you move the tempo away from the original, the more processing the audio goes through to keep it in the same key. If you turn off 'master tempo' or key lock, so the audio changes key as you change tempo, then you won't get any artifacts.
What's your controller? If it has an ASIO compatible audio interface then (obviously) you need to use the manufacturer's ASIO driver/settings (not ASIO4ALL) - but if you don't have it plugged in and therefore you're just using your computer audio, then you should be using WASAPI not ASIO.

I'm not pushing it very far - it starts to lose integrity from about 3% still, but not AS much now that I've changed a few things as rec'd in the earlier response. Only gets grainier as I change the tempo more (10% is as far in any direction as I've played with). So, maybe I'm expecting too much because I'm basing it on what I hear others doing vs. what it actually sounds/feels like when you're the one doing the mixing?
I have a Numark Party Mix, which in retrospect probably wasn't the best buy but does the job for learning. Right now, I'm just using the computer - it automatically uses WASAPI and I leave it that way. That said, turning off ultra latency did seem to make a difference. Is there anything else I could do to my computer's setup that could help?

You could try if it makes any difference when using your PartyMix for sound output instead of your computer.
You could also try to make a recording from within vdj. If you play back the recording and it sounds better, then it is still some configuration issue.
