I've been working on broadcasting directly with Virtual DJ and was having an issue getting audio. I realized that if I took it out of External Mixer mode (which I prefer) then audio would broadcast. Is this a known limitation with External Mixer mode or is there a way to make this work?

Which controller do you use ?
With External mixer mode if your controller does not provide "fake" mixer actions VirtualDJ doesn't know what sound it should broadcast.
In such a case you need to include a record loopback line in your audio setup and feed it with the sound output of your external mixer.
