Hi,
I'm a bit desperate, because my VDJ has been frozen twice during the last 3 DJ-Gigs. Silence. With 250 guests. Catastrophe. I don't find a solution, maybe somebody has another idea here.
I use a MacBookAir (i5-Core 1,8 GHz; 8 GB-Ram, 128 SSD)
Numark Mixtrack Quad
VDJ Pro Infinity
The problem has only occurred since I started using Pro Infinity (purchased it 6 weeks ago). Before that, I used an old "Cue"-Version for 3 years. There everything ran (as far as possible) problem-free. At least without freezing.
The first time, the software suddenly stopped in the middle of a song. No more reaction to commands. Then restart laptop and everything ran again. The second time the same: Software stuck. After a restart, however, only one deck was usable/playable. The left one was running, so I could play music, but you didn't hear anything. I couldn't fix it for the rest of the evening. The problem always occurred after 4.5 to 5 hours.
I had tried to exclude all possible known error sources in advance, i.e.: Bluetooth/W-Lan off, Saving-Energy modes adjusted or deactivated, screen saver off, no programs running in the background. And also a passive USB hub was not in operation.
I am grateful for all ideas and help....

Were these 3 gigs at different venues or the same one? Do you have any filtering on your mains cables or your USB cables?

Hello, I had some issues this weekend as well. On Saturday 4-27-19 the right deck froze while I was loading a song, I changed the Deck from Vinyl to CD and that seemed to fix the problem. On Sunday 4-28-19 after playing for about an hour the entire program froze and would not respond to any prompts on my controller or the VDJ software. Restarted my computer and it worked fine the rest of the evening but it was almost panic time. I use a Pioneer DDJ-SB Controller with my pro Infinity License. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. By the way I use a Toshiba laptop, about 4 years old and running windows 10.....

Same has happen to me in a couple of gigs to, using Pioneer DDJ 400, MAC Book Pro Mid 2012 8GB RAM i5. Unpluging and pluging back the controllers USB got me back and runing after a 10 - 15 seconds silence. It would happen once on a 6 hr gig. Buying a Usb chroma cable from djtech tool did not fix the problem.
I had to roll back to BUILD 4787 and last saturday I did not had a crash, but it has happen before that one week runs Ok then the other I get the crash with the lastest early release. I think my Issue is the controller and not VDJ. I will keep testing to see if it crashes on me with BUILD 4787, risky but I have to nail down this one, my next test will be using a Powered USB Hub for the controller.
What ever findings I get, I will share.
Forgot to explain:
The reason I think is the controller, because it has never crash on me, no matter what version of VDJ i use, with the Numark Party Mix, yeah with this little toy I've been Dj ing at this bar for 6hrs for weeks without a crash. Also this little toy has a better master output than the DDj 400, I know that's insane but true. Also it has never crash on me with the Denon MCX 8000.

I think that the vdj updates are not always compatible with old plugins. It might be worth deleting any old plugins and reinstalling them possibly with the latest version. They may not be going into the correct plugin folder. I'd recommend being frugal when using plugins..just get the ones you really need. Plugins may not run very well as a deck effect, running them as a master effect may be better? This might involve moving the plugin .dll so that it appears in the master effect drop down.
It's a can of worms.
Bottom line..I think crashes are coming from the plugins.
Note: I've been getting some crashes in the last few weeks and was suspecting everything in the world including the windows registry.

Thanks a lot for the responses…
Freezes twice at two gigs in the same location, yeah. But I've been DJing there since 2015 without any problems. Wasn't so much going on last time either. Not so many guests. No vibration, shocks to the dj-desk by guests, which might trigger a freeze...no, I don't use any filter cable.
In the past I had problems with a Lenovo-Laptop (Windows), thats why I changed to Apple/Macbook in 2017. Everything ran fine- until the last gigs
The VDJ support wrote, that freezes could be a heat problem. Or that overload/heat could cause the software to shut down. But I wonder: the Macbooks are so powerful (and expensive) they should be able to do that. They also have a fan, don’t they?

"It's a can of worms.

In my case, i never installed any plugins for the software or older ones (Cue, VDJ LE). i got the pro infinity license 6 weeks ago and shortly after that i had the first crash.
Could it be that older controllers (I have the Mixtrack Quad and the Mini-Console "Mixtrak Edge") simply can't cope with the powerful program Pro Infinity?

Would the live crash guard or report be a solution? How exactly does this work? Have no experiences with it...
I'm online while I'm DJing and - at the Freeze or Crash - the software sends a report to VDJ?
Thanks!

A Freeze is not a crash and probably no crashreport is generated. Also, for a crash report to be sent to VDJ Servers you have to be online at the time.
A rare issue could be some power expensive devices starting up on the same power circuit. Like a fridge, lights or an AC.
As I said it's a rare issue but it has happend in the past with e.g. the VMS 4 controller and a fog machine on the same circuit. As soon as you pressed the button to release some fog the unit froze.

I've had one recent freeze.. I had to use ctl-alt-del to shut vdj down and then restart.

Yes, if I had not connected a smartphone to the mixer as a backup, I would have had 10 minutes of silence as "only" 3 minutes:/
For me it happens after 4 to 5 hours in club use. For a few hours everything runs smoothly, then - in the middle of a song - the software gets stuck. Why can't it be an overload of the hardware (macbook, controller)...
Regarding the circuit: my laptop was - if i remember right - in a multiple socket. together with 1-2 other components/plugs. it's quite possible that there was the lighting system on it. How can that be solved? bring your own multiple plug? In the future always - light, laptop, mixer or amplifier - to your own circuits? How can this be done in practice?

I could play through this at home during the weekend. Test ist for a couple of hours. While i'm online. Assuming there's a real "crash": VDJ automatically receives report, you don't have to adjust anything in advance?
Thanks...

While I have no clue of what may caused your freezes, I would advise you to not use any skins that were not made specifically for VirtualDJ 8.
While the skin engine in version 8 is written in a way that it can load version 7 skins, compatibility with older skins (pre VirtualDJ 7) is not guaranteed. Also, even for VirtualDJ 7 skins, there might be incompatibilities on some of them that may cause the program to become unstable.
Therefore, if you just started using version 8 (2018) please stay away from older skins.

As far as I'm concerned the default skin is excellent and also highly functional.
Mensajes Tue 30 Apr 19 @ 11:32 pm
Thanks, yes.
I only use the default skin. Never another.
Now the support has written to me that the computer is probably the problem. It may not be able to handle the "high requirements" of the software and then stops the VDJ engine, which leads to freezing. What I find hard to imagine, or what do you think?
I can't assume that a 1100-Euro Mac Air with 8 GB RAM and 1.8 Ghz (i5) ( one and a half years old) won't be able to cope with Virtual Dj 8 Pro Infinity? :)
Sure, I can buy a new laptop now and best of all a new controller - and then freezes of 90 percent are excluded? Since that can never be the case, this is all somehow, senseless...

You mentioned that restarting the computer fixed it.
Did you try to just restart VirtualDJ, or disconnect/reconnect the controller without restarting the computer?

A MACBook AIR is not a system that can run on a high power state for prolonged times.
I'm not saying that it's your MACBook to blame for your issues, but since you mention that it always happen after 4-4,5 hours I would suspect heat as a possible cause.
MAC Air's are designed to be portable, and therefore their ventilation system is poor. So, next time I would monitor the temperatures of the system to determine if it's a possible cause or not.

it would also be a good idea to run a ac cooler on a entire different power souce.. not your machines power usb.

No, I did not try that. I restarted the laptop right away. I will try that first in the future, thx

Ok, so it could be the Mac Book, understand. I only wonder that the device/mac book worked in 2017 and 2018 without an error / interruption - even at peak performance, rarely under 7 hours in club operation. But with VDJ 7 (Cue).
I still have a windows-laptop, which I can test. In my eyes, not such a bad device (i3, 2 Ghz, 8 GB Ram, Win 10). If it also freezes, it is because of the Pro Infinity or too high demands on my systems.
A quick question about the temperature check: do you use a specific (freeware) tool or just monitor over CPU?
