must have passed by before, but I can't find it on the forum. A delay of maybe just a millisecond from the microphone sound. You hear this on your headphones, and it is very annoying. I only use the PC and virtual DJ, so no external equipment. Sound card a very simple realtek digital output sound card. Can I possibly solve this problem with an external, more expensive sound card? Also playing around with the settings does not work. Thanks in advance.

It's latency. If it's annoying you, it's likely to be more than 1ms!
You'll never eliminate it completely, because of the computer's processing time, but domestic/consumer audio interfaces (such as the built in audio) will be worse than an interface designed for DJs or musician/producers that has low latency drivers.
Some also offer "zero latency" monitoring, which basically monitors the input rather than the output, so you don't hear the delay.
