It looks like you can not only use, but also edit Serato Smart Crates inside VDJ - and it instantly works if you do so
But if you the restart VDJ - or close VDJ and start Serato - it's the changes are not stored
That probably makes sense, because some of the filters VDJ can add can't be done in Serato
Then you can choose to create filter folder in VDJ based on the smart crates, which then works like all other filter folders, since they are basically native VDJ filter folders - just created based on Serato information

Changes to Serato Smart Crates are indeed not saved. Opening the editor is only intended to show you what the smart crate does.
To actually edit it you can export all serato crates to virtual folders by right-clicking the serato folder.
Then you have actual VirtualDJ filter and virtual folders that can be edited.
