Hi, the audio setting "headphonesGain" is not working. No matter what I enter for value, the volume isn't changed. I would like to lower the volume of the headphones, it is too loud. I tried entering 0.5 or 0.25, but the volume keeps the same.

This is actually pretty simple. Purchase an inline headphone volume gain adapter. All you got to do is buy a little bit of hardware and you can solve an expensive problem. I hope this helps you as I've used this myself.
