Tema: Mixer that allows use of all six STEMS
Hi everyone, I am new to the forum.

I am enjoying learning to mix breakbeat tunes (nu skool and psy breaks) as a hobby.

Until now, I have been using Virtual DJ with a mouse and keyboard. I am now at the point where I am confident that I can put a reasonable mix together and want to step up my game by purchasing a mixer to use with Virtual DJ.

Through trial and error, I have discovered that I like using Stems to mix (as opposed to say using filters or other methods). Virtual DJ allows the user to click on the UI to switch between Low, Mid, High, and Hihat, Mel/Vox, and Kick.

What I am asking for here is some recommendations on mixers that will allow me to make use of all six Stems.

I am aware that I could do that through the use of Pads; however, I would much prefer to use dials if possible.

I live in Australia and have a budget of around $750 AUD. A quick search produced this: Pioneer DJM 250 MK2 2 Channel DJ Mixer with DVS for $754.

It has five dials straight down the middle (trim, hi, mid, low, colour) and some off to the side. Could they be mapped to say HiHat, Hi, Mel/Vox, Low, Kick with say Bass and Mid mapped to say the Parameters and Tone dials?

Thanks in advance for any assistance provided.

A real mixer will typically do the eq/filter/gain in hardware, so even if it sends midi, you can't use the same channel for stems as well.
Typically, you'd setup vdj with a 4-channel mixer in that case, so that the main channels still control eq/gain/filter, and the outer unused channels control the stems. In that case you can control all stems with the knobs of deck 3/4.
Alternatively, you'd need a midi controller with software mixing (audio config with master/headphones) where the knobs are handled in software.

Hi Adion, I hope you are well. Thank you for taking the time to reply to my query. Your reply is really helpful.

How about this brand and mixer: Reloop RMX-44BT 4-Channel Bluetooth DJ Club Mixer. Its retailing for around $700 here in Australia.

I am new to the game and not familiar with Reloop. Anyone know if that is a decent mixer/reliable brand?

no midi/audio interface included with that device.

Thanks, Locodog.

Boy, it seems an increase in knowledge results in an increase in price. Haha. I was looking at purchasing something like this: Pioneer DJ DDJ-FLX4-N 2-Channel DJ Controller for about $500 AUD.

Now I am aware that I need a 4-channel mixer to make full use of stems the price has gone up to a minimum of $1000 for a Reloop RMX 60 DJ Mixer 4 Channel and $2000+ for a Pioneer DJM-750 MK2 4 Channel DJ Mixer Rekordbox DJ.

Can anyone recommend a decent brand and quality 4 channel mixer for around $750 AUD (could go to $1000 for the right piece of equipment) to pair with Virtual DJ?

I need something that produces a decent sound quality, allows full use of Virtual DJs stems, pads, and loops.

Thanks for any advice or suggestions.

As you can see in the virtualdj manual, the DDJ-FLX4 falls in the category of controllers where the mixing is done in software (virtualdj sends master and headphone audio to the controller)
https://www.virtualdj.com/manuals/hardware/pioneer/ddjflx4/setup.html

This means that if you don't need regular eq and stems control simultaneously, that this will still work to control stems.

Hi Adion, thanks again for your help.

I like the look of this item: Traktor Kontrol S3 DJ Controller 4 Channel.

I have noted that people say its best used with Traktor software; however, I will take a look at the Virtual DJ manual and see what that says.
