Tema: Effects and Samples mega lag?

Este tópico es antiguo y puede contener información incorrecta para la nueva versión.

This has been going on with me since I purchased VDJ (2.1?)
I thouhgt it may have been HDJC but i get the same thing with U46DJ.

Everytime, and I mean everytime, after VDJ's been running for about 3 hours, effects and samples create mass lag.

It's even worse now in 4.0

I can't start a sample without making the playing song freeze up and skip.
Effects aren't as bad, but still create a lot of lag.

Anyone knows how to fix this?

Again this doesnt happen when you first run VDJ.
Only once you're 3 hours into it.

Maybe low ram? how much do you have?

I got a gig of ram on an IBM T42.
I think this is either a config issue or a VDJ eating up cache issue.

Think it might be a swap file isse, that being Windows swap file.

Try defrag your harddrive and see if that helps.

Could be, but windows tells me I do not need to defrag...
I'll try anyways though.

Am I the only one with this issue?

dont bother defrag if its not needed...

hmm

I use VDJ 5-6 hours gigs several times a week, so no.. not having issues like that.

Weird, sounds like a memory issue for sure, but dont know what. If swap file is good, ram amount is good.. hmm

What is swap file set to by the way? it should be 1.5 your physical ram, or let windows control it.
And you need at least that amound of free space on harddrive.

Also, what is your most used effect? Might be a bad coded effect, that has memory leak too...

Just not sure what it can be, trying to eliminate things, and help you pin point what it is

Actually could it be my paging file?
I have 1 gig of RAM and my paging file is at 384 megs.
Should I set it higher than that?

**********************************

Yeah I'm going to set it at 150% and see what happens.
I use the standard effects that come with 4.0

your paging file should be 1,5 the physical ram, and 384 mb sounds far too little... might very well be the reason for trouble after hours of play, yes :)

This is what you gonna try:
Set your swap file a fixed amount, 800Mb (so start and end, fixed)
Go in safe mode and do a defrag (in safe mode swap file is not used)
Restart to normal mode, and Windows will make a 800Mb file for swap in continues way, so no fragmentation.
Also, try to have a dedicated partition for OS (10Gb) and don't install new programs on in, just OS, make a Program Files on other partition and install your programs there.
Try all this and let us know how it works.

Yes, it should be half of your ram. and fixed to one number. 800 is good number. write results.

I did everything you guys said.
I still have the problem.

After 2-3 hours, effects and samples become totally useless.
If I activate them, they just freeze up the system for a couple of seconds.

I'm thinking of going to external hardware for samples.

NOTE: The problem happens with samples 100% of the time.
With effects it doesnt always happen.
So if you guys haven't experienced it with effects, it doesnt mean it won't happen to you if you try samples after a few hours.

I think this is a VDJ issue and not a hardware or settings issue.
This was present in 3.4 as well.

NOTE2: This happenned to me in 4.0 with both Hercules and U46, each with a complete different config.

Actually...........

Could this be a video issue?
I'm using a personal skin, in which I tripled the size of the wavform.

Could it be that after a few hours, its the graphics card that decides to rebel?

Though I don't see how samples would affect the graphic card, but still...

might be..
Its often quite odd what causes issues.

I had a WiFi card messing up my system with another app...

Best way of findig the issue, is elimination.
Try different skin, and if that fixes it, then the big size video screen you made causes it.
Why? I dont know.. some memory leak, or something
