Hi everyone:
I know this question has been asked 20 different ways but I can't seem to reach a conclusion.
Please answer if you have much experience DJIng with a laptop using VDJ and 4.0 and use video for at least 50% of your night...
I am about to buy a laptop (probably gateway but not necessarily), that has the best of everything to run video and audio at the clubs with VDj 4.0 Pro.
For the laptop it has come down to 2 of the best available at Gateway:
NVidea GeForce 7900 Go w/ 256 Mb, DDR3
or
ATI x1400 128 MB (up to 256 Hypermemory)
90-nanometer process Graphics Processing Unit (GPU)
128-bit 4-channel DDR/DDR2/GDDR3 RAM support.
http://www.ati.com/products/mobilityradeonx1400/specs.html
If I go with ATI's card I can only get the laptop at 15" from Gateway. The nVidea is 17" for the laptop screen.
I am reading so many conflicting things. Some cards even have 512 mb ram? Is that desktop only?
For my laptop what will work without a single problem in your opinion?
If neither of these cards are best, what do you recommend that comes already installed with a laptop?
Thanks,
B

Both card should work good...
Although I gotta say almost none have issues with ATI on laptops.
But the Nvidia card you mention is one of the better, and should work good:)

7900 GS isn't a good option, I will recomend ATI X1400 in there. Only 7900GT or GTX perform great on those.
If you want a 17" laptop take a look of XPS1710 Dell laptop.
Good luck!

Hey Andres,
I did it! Ordered this today...
Please give feedback...
Dell 1710XPS lappy
Dual duo core 2.16 gig hrz processor
XP Media O/S
2 gig memory
NVidia 7900GTX 512 mB DDR2 Clocks speed 667 @ 2 dim
17" screen/Black
60 gig internal
etc...
minimum software installed
Thanks- Going to be using time coded CDs with Pioneer CdJ1000's at the club.
Probably 60% video, 40% music.
I noticed the green CPU light almost full on my home Gateway desktop especially when running visuals.
Is this ok and should I be extra concenred for this when my new Laptop comes?
Thanks!!!

try using a skin without the preview on all the time, but your lappy shouldnt have a problem, plenty of power

Great laptop. I agree, you shouldn't have any problems. I have done visual shows with desktop and laptop. Laptop wasnt that great and just met the minimum.. was like 1.73Ghz,1gb etc.
