I had some problems with the other systems I was using so here I go again. This time I have purchased the following to build a new PC to run Virtual DJ
Motherboard - Gigabye LGA 775
Processor - Intel EM64T Pentium D processor 2.80 ghz 800 mhz FSB 2 MB L2 cache
Memory - Kingston KVR400/1GR !gb DDR 400
Hard Drive - Seagate 300 MB SATA
Operating sys - WIndows XP Professional SP2
I'll start here and add the Video and Sound cards after I get Virtual Installed and play with it first.

and id recomend u avoid pentium D processors as they massively under clock :(
and have alot of well known general profomance issues ,
otherwise very nice pc lol

I added the Nvidia mx4400 video card, and this system is actually showing all 3 video preview windows and smoothly transitioning between video's. As far as the Pentium D processor, the salesman at the computer store assured me that this processor would handle the multimedia applications better than an AMD processor, I was skeptical but gave it a try. One other thing to not is that when ripping with the Virtual DJ DVD Ripper, I get some issues with the audio synchronizing with the video's, so I'll try that out another DVD rom drive. SO far this system without the monitor has cost $800, With the monitor, sound card, and keyboard, this system will have cost a total of $950, so it better tun the program smoothly. I wish this site would post more info on hardware that is not recommended so users would not have to guess what's compatible.

PIII 850 MhZ computer
1024x768 SVGA video
DirectX compatible soundcard
512 MB RAM
20 MB free on the hard-drive
The recommended configuration is:
PIV (pentium 4) 3 GhZ computer
1024x768 SVGA video
4.1 DirectX compatible soundcard (with front and rear separate outputs)
1024 MB RAM
200 MB free on the hard-drive space

The Pentium D as you specify could be the Intel 920 or the 820. I don't recommend you the 820.
Pentim D processor aren't under clock, and they could be overclocked with the right motherboard. I use an Intel Pentium D 940 (3.2GHz, FSB 800, 2MB x2 Cache) at 3.46 GHz.
For me that PC isn't a good one. I better choose a D930 (3GHz, FSB 800, 2MBx2) than a 920 and also I use another motherboard with DDR2 support. These systems work better with DDR2 667MHz or 800MHz. DDR 400 (PC3200) aren't a good choice for a new System.
I have doubts about mx4400 performance, I think is better a N-Vidia 7600GT PCi-e with DDR3 memory modules.
If you have not seen VirtualDJ work with VOB files (or MPEG-2) in hardware accelerated mode using 2 Videos and video effects, you have not been probe correctly the videocard.
Every videocard will work with VDJ if you use MPEG-1 or DivX files.

im doing the compita A+ certification in comuter building and enginering , and they slated pentium d , so its cool to see its working for some ppl :)

I would recommend OCZ or similar RAM modules (and try to get 2gb, ram is not that expensive)
also, If I were you (it's what I have) I would use smaller hard drives if you want to save cash, but try to buy two, one for windows - virtualdj, another one for music... (I have 2x160gb)
