have listened to the first 20 mins of your mix..
and it sound great!! really!!

u mix on the beat, and the mix is having a nice flow.. can't really say u are doing anything wrong, u would have a packed dancefloor with this set-up ;) nice work!!

its not easy to beatmix hiphop, and you did a great job ;)

maybe even less "beatmix" maybe? just a suggestion, and not sayin your mix was not good enough.. but mix even faster, with less "fade into each other" ... really on the beat fast cross fader move.. sometimes that works great for hiphop, break beats and big beats.. :) and u did exactly that in some mix parts.. sounded better that when u "faded" for a time

by the way, some of the scratch was pretty cool too :)

Thanks for the tips. I see what you mean on the quick cuts, i think ill try to do that more often.

On another note, is it just me or you get deeper into a dj "goove" further into a set? I just relistened to it to analyze myself, and the last 30 minutes were far and away the best. Its like there's a kind of warmup period. You get that too?

Mensajes Sun 25 Jul 04 @ 2:18 am
yeah.. i have the exact same experience everytime i mix...

it gets better and better, as u get more "warm" ;)

have listened to 30 mins now, and no worries, your mix is great :) and some parts its better to fade, than to cut mix...
so, dont worry.... your mixing is great

Thanks! I think that means im ready to try vdj in front of a crowd. Ive only used mixmeister live in the past, and it kinda limits spontonaety (however that's spelt)

Mensajes Sun 25 Jul 04 @ 2:29 am
yeah!! vdj gives a LOT more feel to the mix than using a static program like Mixmeister... it can not be compared

by the way, very nice on the beat fast cross mix between these 2 songs :
20:40 - 50cent - ft. Snoop Dogg - pimp (remix) (dirty).mp3
20:39 - 2 Pac - Keep Ya Head Up.mp3

and loved the way u scratched Eminem into that!!! and even the same for next song...
(as you said, it got better and better, and really great in the end!!)

by the way, very nice choice of songs too, and thats the most important part as a DJ

u are definitive ready to use VDJ live for the crowd!! :)

one tip.. Not saying u are, but don't get "over-creative"...your mixing was great, but think of the audience as well
(run songs for at least 3 mins, and dont "overmix" or "over-scratch", keep it a bit easy-to-listen-to, and not use it as a stage for showing your skills, at an actual gig... would mix/scratch a bit less, at work, if u see what I mean.. many dj's fall into the "trap" of being too creative, but I'm by no means saying u are, just keep it in the back of your mind.. u play for the guests)

by the way, Naughty By Nature... I love that song!!!!

;)

another tip...
I use "echo out" a lot for hip hop mixes..

I change between 3 types of mixing:
(1) fade mix
(2) cut mix
(3) echo out..

last one is a plugin effect...
use it with beatsync and 4 beats..

is sounds great when it fades out looping an echo in hiphop mixes, as a variation..

u got a number (4) way of mixing too.... scratch song into the other, that worked great sometimes (eminem was awesome!) But thats a hard way of mixing (w/Hercules), and my salute to you for doing a great job in this!! :)

Scratching too much is one of my fears. It's fun, so i can get carried away. As for the effects, before i got my console, i used the flaged loop out alot, but now i kinda get carried away with the other stuff i can do, and forget about the effects until its too late. I hate to admit it, but if i recall that quick fade you liked just happened because i ran out of time ;)

Mensajes Sun 25 Jul 04 @ 2:59 am
lol ;) still, it was nice, even if it was a time issue ;)

and flanged loop-out is my favorite plugin ;)

yeah, over-doing things is a dj's biggest problem, and biggest mistake... It's like a football player, wanting to show all his skills, but he must also play with the team... cant be to "ego", and so is the case with dj's - gotta play for the guests at gigs, and remember to keep it easy-to-listen to... :)

but dont worry, was not meant at you... was just a general tip :) your mix was great, and if this was played live at a club, you would have a huge happy crowd at the dancefloor... seriously! :)

the original post is dated july 25th, it would in fact be strange if it was still online after such a long time. Most people don't have unlimited webspace and need it for other things too.
