This looks like a really good deal. However, there is still a lack of specifics on this control.
From the looks of it, it appears to be a just a controller, and not a sound card also, unlike the MKII and BCD2000. That would be fine by me, as I like my Audigy 2 just fine. However, what are the requirements for the USB port it would attach to?
I've got a HP ZE4430US laptop, with a Athlon XP-M 2400+ CPU, 1 Gig of DDR266 RAM, and a 100 Gig Toshiba drive with 16 MB buffer. All is well within spec of what is needed, but for whatever reason, it's only got USB 1.1. It's also only got 1 PCMCIA slot, which has a Audigy 2 card in it, so if the Numark Total Control does not have it's own sound card, then all I have available is the USB 1.1. On the up side, if the Total Control is only a controller, and not a sound card, perhaps USB 1.1 will be fine. USB keyboards and mice connecting to a USB 1.0 or 1.1 don't seem to have any real latency.
Anyway, if anyone knows more of the specifics, I'd love to hear :)

Don't know how much in USD but in the UK they are available on pre order at £219. I'd guess in US around $300.- 350

Does VDJ 4.2 support General MIDI/MIDI learn so that either this Numark or the VCI-100 can map to them?
My only experience with VDJ is an older version (3.2, he used a mouse and keyboard) that I no longer have access too as it was on my room mate's PC, and he has since moved out, so now I must buy VDJ 4.2.

Did you know that Numark's CUE Software looks like a licensed version of VDJ?
I just downloaded it to test it on my system here at work, the layout is the same, the superimposed WAV visuals ar the same, the FX say "Licensed ATOMIX Virtual DJ 4.x" on them (to include the BeatGrid, Flanger, TK Filter, just like VDJ).

numark cue is virtual dj
vdj supports all controlers you just need to mapp them if they are not premapped
