Good grease monkey answer

Do you ever clip your amps? I know I do, and it's OK, because they are made to handle it. You don't clip on every song, all night long, but we are able to do this without fear.

WHOAHHH !!!!!! Clipping is NOT an option EVER! The issue is not that your amps can take it. It's the damage to your speakers!

Amp output is usually a nice rounded sine wave, speakers run on an electrical current entering the coils and hence moving the magnet in and out which in turn is connected to the cone of the amp, hence moving air in unison creating sound waves. The nice round sine waves represent the current which because it's a nice rounded sine, is constantly changing, meaning the current to the speakers is constantly changing.

When an amp 'clips' through being overdriven, what it means is it cannot manage the full output so it 'clips' the tops and bottoms from the sine wave, creating an almost square wave. When you do this, you are not putting a constantly altering current into the speakers, it gets to the top of the wave, stays level, then to the bottom of the wave, stays level and so on. Which means, you are putting a constant current and holding it on the speaker for the period of the square wave, at this point the speaker is recieving current but not moving. A moving speaker cools itself by it's own movement, the constant 'in and out' of the cone forces air to be pushed over the coil. If the cone isn't moving, no air is being passed this causes the coil to heat and become strained. This WILL destroy your speakers if you don't address it. Clipping is ALWAYS bad!

Now THAT is a "good grease monkey answer" and is 100% correct. Feel free to Google 'clipping' to verify the above.

That was a great lesson, and you are correct. I am not talking about frying your speakers "clip". All amps are rated at their lowest THD. They all have headroom. All speakers are also rated at their continuous and peak handling. Speakers are capable of handling these momentary "peaks". You are not going to fry your speakers, unless you continuously send "constant current and holding it on the speaker". My use of the word "clip", was too flippant.

Even with your CPU going %100 for hours, that shouldn't crash your system. If it does, you have heat issues with your system. You may not have a good enough transfer of heat from your CPU to the heat sink. As long as your CPU is kept at a comfortable temp, you can run it at %100 all day long.

I just arrived home after a Wed .night at the club

Just for Shits and Giggles I decided to run the sonique as I would If I had a porjector hooked up, Enabled it as audio only plugin

Honesty for the first 3 hours I didn;t notice any effect - but I did have to lower VDJ performance down to the second fastest.

then while loading a song into deck B I discovered it was corrupt and sounded awful - plus it made deck A sound bad too so i changed the song right quick and deleted the corrupt file.

As soon as I deleted the corrupt file - VDJ compleatly froze - and did not self - recover.

This was the metiforical piston through the block I was afraid of

I'm ready to remove the Sonique Visualizations from my system

any helpful comments?

How about use the slideshow while you're playing mp3s, you could put adverrts for drinks offers, promotion for different nights, etc on the screens.

I bring my camera to snap pics while I';m at work anyway - pretty easy to start a slideshow right off the camera in USB mode

We have all acknowledged that there are some power hungry files in Sonique. You need to delete the ones that cause you problems. There are some that make me have to wait a few seconds, when I select a group. The recurse bar is staring at me, and I can't do anything, until that visual changes. I keep saying I am going to delete that visual, but I like it. So, I make sure I don't wait till the last second, to pick a song when I have the Sonique visuals playing. These are not VDJ visuals, but Sonique visuals, which I got for free, so I am using them at my own risk. This is all that's available at the moment, and I am happy to use them. You specs are better then mine. Are you using a laptop, what video card?

ACtually Man - I'm using a desktop mobo in a rackmount case.

It's an AMD athlon x2 @2ghz
ASUS - M2NPV-VM Mainbaord
2 gigs DRR2 ram
Nivida 6150 internal Graphics with 265 MB ram assigned(dual vga output or DVI/tv out)
SoundMax 6.1 soundcard (internal)
DAC2 Controller
Vestax 3 channel rackmount mixer

This set-up has taken everything I've thrown at it EXCEPT these visualizations

I'm kinda Frustrated/Irritated

But like you said - free is free.

Have you looked at the "whorld" visualisations DJ_Marcel? They're a freeframe plugin, and they still use a fair bit of cpu, but might be worth a look at anyway.

here's the ones I use (I put some instructions in aswell)

www.andy-t.net/Whorld_Visualisations_1.zip

or their website is www.whorld.org

Enjoy!

thanks for including that andy, those are real cool.thx for the read me too cuz, of course lol i skipped all that and just got the pentagon and didn't know what was wrong......anyway now my plugins/video effects has pete's , default efx , sonique and "hardly used" folders.......

Thanks Andy _ i downlaoded you r file and bookmarked that web address.
I'll fool around with them on Saturday - I'm off from everything most Saturdays ever since I canceled all my Sub contracts to try and open up for my self.

That's cool, thought i should start trying to do a few things for people since i've had plenty of help in the past!

Those effects aren't exactly all cutting edge or anything, but might come in handy for something.

:)

According to the website, it's possible to mix the visuals with video files and also make play lists to change the patches automatically, but I haven't managed to make that work in the freeframe plugin version so far...

They're Bright and they move - that's all I require.

Theoretically we're using these as a replacement for DJ lights (at least I would) so moving changing bright lights are good.

I think I might use some of the soniques and few of these

hey andy - I set those up on my desktop (see above)

Then went to the website - now how do I download some of the other ones?

they looked nice as well.

http://www.whorld.org/download.html

if you go for Chris Korda's VJ patches, then copy them all into the WhorldFF folder in my documents.

It's a pain in the arse trying to work out which one's you want to keep though, since you can't see the name of the patch you're looking at! :(

I ended up just putting them into the folder one at a time, deciding if they were any good, then deleting any I didn't want.

If your interested, it's definitely worth a download of the whorld application.

chucknorris...

Yeah, I downloaded pete's plugins the other week, freaking amazing some of them! (Big fan of kalidascope) :)

thanks Andy - that works nice for me - anyway - I just got back from dinner with the GF and it's time to get ready for Firday night Bar games

Oh and for those Keeping track -

New years day one of our competiors closed down - Today - the Central AC unit of another club - 1 block away fell THROUGH the roof - so it's gone untill further notice.

Small but Mighty
