Tópico: NUMARK VIRTUAL VINYL OR SERATO SCRATCH LIVE? - Page: 1

Esta parte del tópico es antigua y puede contener información incorrecta para la nueva versión.

Hey guys, i am a good user of Virtual DJ V5, I just got involved into timecode vinyls, first i used the numark control vinyls with my BCD 2000 as soundcard, it was really horrible and everything seemed to stop every 10 sec; then i bought the maya 44 usb soundcard, it works well but the sound is not that good, there is a disturbing noise in the background and the scratch is not fast enough,.
Now i am thinking of buying a high quality soundcard like the Numark Virtual Vinyl(which also includes the software) or the serato scratch live. But i am hesitating in which one to choose. Can anyone help me make the right choice??

Also i would really like to keep using my VDJ 5 software(or cue) but woudnt mind switching to serato if its soundcard is better for timecoded vinyls.

thanks

Only you can decide on that.

Well the VV box is a very good soundcard and is designed for perfect intergration with the software.

You would need to purhcase the profesisonal software to use either soltion , it is alot cheaper to purchase the VV as a package with Cue (VDJ pro)

than it would be to purchase it seprately.

Try out both if you can and make a decision based on what you feel about it.

I would have to say that the 'distortion' and performance issues with the Maya are because you don't have it properly configured.

And, I would also highly suggest you register your software here - http://www.virtualdj.com/fusers/modifuser.html. Since you did not mention using the trial and you implied a benefit of getting VirtualVinyl was the software - I can only conclude you are using an illegal version.

Glad to provide you help, just need to make things right.

what is the right configuration for the maya 44?
i am not using a trial or illegal version of the software, i have been using it in clubs for almost a year and never experienced any problems, i am just looking a really good & suitable soundcard to run the timecode vinyls, specially in club

a lesson... don't jump to conclusions. To assume, from one post, that the Dj is using an illegal copy of VDJ is irresponsible. I appreciate the frustration experienced by teamers here dealing with hackers but to make such a quick assumption is not fair to the end-user.

Which brings up this question... what is a DJ to do that is using the club's copy, which may be shared by a few resident DJ's. How do these DJ's get the same support as individuals that have their own license. Or atleast recoginzed as users of a licensed product though registered to the club and not the jock.

Generally speaking, almost any card that has two line ins in STEREO, and two line outs, will work, and if it has ASIO drivers its likely to work good (low latency drivers).

Those listed above are PRO cards, so some are damn expensive..
But get a card thats not the most expensive, but not the cheapest eather.

Soundblaster is a good solution on budget.

you need a card with asio and low latency generally speaking

A good all-in-one package :
- Numark Virtual Vinyl (soundcard, VDJ software, vinyls)

It is very impressive that the clubs let you bring in your own sound card and allow you to change their setup to accommodate you that way. Typically they might let you connect to a mixer, but it's interesting they let you change their setup.

Anyhow, if you want the best performance from the Maya should make sure they set the card up for you as follows:

Maya44 Soundcard Setup --

From the VirtualDJ Configuration - Sound Setup tab -
Click on the ASIO Configuration button.
In the first tab with all the channels displayed.
Mute the first 4 for Monitoring the inputs.
Set the INPUT Gains at just below 50% (1/2) at about 40%.
Set the OUTPUT Gains at 100%

In the Timecode Configuration, uncheck the Clear Sound option. Use a pitch sensitivity of about 800-1200
Run the Auto Config for both decks.

thanx, and also what settings shall i make in vdj to ensure that the scratch sounds better because mine sucks at the moment?

In performance tab, in VDJ settings:

- turn the performance slider all the way up or almost (depends on your system)
- after that, set latency to AUTO in same setting page (Important!)
- turn off master-tempo/keylock.

;)

thanx and also can you please tell me all the settings i shoud do on the 'PERFORMANCE' tab in virtual dj to ensure a good configuration? and also in the timecode configuation..!!!
whenever i try a fast scratch, it's not very responsive and when i try a perfect beatmatch, the waves somehow dis match themselves so that i always must use a mouse to keep them together while playing.
what could be the problem here? settings? turntable needle?

timecode use is sensitive to lots, such as needle, turntable and such ..

But some basics that can help make sure it works optimal :

- Ground your turntables to your PC or soundcard
- Turn OFF clear sound in Timecode options
- At VDJ performance tab, move the performance slider all the way to the right, or the step before all to the right (depends on how good your pc is)
- After performance slider is set, manually set AUTO for latency in performance tab (important)
- At your soundcard settings (not in vdj) lower the asio buffer to somewhat close to 250-500 buffer size or 5-11 ms.
- Turn off any beatlock/mastertempo (timecode setting AND Vdj "skin")

this should then be working good, but please remember that it does also rely on your soundcard and pc's performance, and so on.

Also, always check in VDJ timecode settings, that you get a 100% timecode signal (when you dont scratch.. when you scratch, the signal quality indicator will jump all over the place, this is natural)

Hope that helps ;)

Now, does this info work well for TC CDs? If not, what should be the config for a couple of Denon 3500s w/ TC CDs? Because the scratch is a little strange in the responce department. I'm using the Hercules RMX

feels like a discrimination against no license users lol...

Well Gang5ta, around here a no license user is technically a demo version user.
That demo runs for 20 days unrestricted, in fact the older demo only had single channel sound so you really couldn't use it live or to properly cue up a track.
But given the generousity of our developer, the new demo has that capability because he really wants you to use it like you would and really get the feel of it hands on.
The only other restriction is......time code only works for 5 minutes.
And if you didn't know that, you have probably never had the demo on your system.

So the question is this, if you joined the community and did download the 20 day demo in Sept of 07, what version are you using now?

Now, we do have patience with this to a point, but we had a no license user grow basket sized balls the other day and it got messy.
End result was he lost out.

So take that as a clue that we do know a little bit about what goes on in this forum, and the reason is that we want to see some of you become Pro users.
That last guy joined in 06 and had posts going all the way back to version 3.1, patient we are, stupid we are not.

So please take the hint, we don't want to lose any of you, but there are limits that need to be respected here.

I am also a user without a license but hopefully that will change in the next month or so.

This doesn't mean I'm using a demo of VDJ or a hacked version of the software....I've been getting by with Cue LE 4 with my midi controller. 5.0 is actually a downgrade for someone like me because there is no way to adjust any of the settings until the full version is purchased. 4 at least allows me to change some settings in the config menu but does not have support for video mixing to a projector.

I spin with professional DJ's and all of them give me shit for using VDJ and me getting timecoded vinyl isn't going to change their opinion of me....they're Serato users. But what keeps me coming back to VDJ is the cool and helpful people on this board and the people here are not a bunch of pricks like some of the Serato guys.

Making my next purchase is going to be a huge decision for me. I REALLY want to go with Virtual Vinyl. I love Cue, it's by far the best program I've used but there are a couple things that concern me. After using VDJ side by side with Serato and Traktor, it just does not sound as good. There is a significant difference in sound quality. Quality sound is all that matters to me but video mixing is a big deal to me as well. The club I work at has several projectors and I'm just dying to hook my laptop up to them. Nobody else stands a chance against VDJ when it comes to video.

Then of course there is the Rane Serato Mixer. I like this product because Serato is wired to the mixer so I won't have to deal with USB dropouts. It also does videos but with me being a broke ass college student.....there is not a chance in hell I'll pay $1500 for that anytime soon.

Anyway....I wish I could register my version of Cue LE on this board but that is a Numark thing and their forum isn't that good. Perhaps someone can ease my anxiety with the VDJ sound quality stuff to make be go out and buy Virtual Vinyl this weekend? This is not to imply the sound quality with VDJ is bad.....it actually sounds better than some of my vinyl with the bad ass sound card I have......I'm just anal about audio.

Cheers,
-Aaron

Well, at 1 time I used a crack version of the program until I knew i liked it. But very fast realized that my problems were due to the crack. I have had problems, but have learned alot from this forum. So should people assume? Yes they should, just like it was said, if you have used it for that long and it is not a trial, most likely an illegal user. I have expierienced the best performance after my purchase and still use it as a part of my gigs 4 nights a week. I want everyone to use the program successfully and buy it, then maybe everyone will stop asking me why I am not using serato.... Lol

You can register your CUE LE here....it will give you anther star and you will be tagged as a home edition user.

Vitrual Vinyl Cue and VDJ are all three the same program no different at all.

The Serato guys are a bit odd about not digging VDJ/CUE don't ask me why. Personally I give Serato credit for building such a loyal customer base but, am insulted by the way that base looks down its nose at anyone not using their option.

Your comment about the sound has me a bit concerned. I use both CUE and DJ and have had nothing but great sound. If you could please post a screen shot of your config settings, we might be able to dial you in better.

Coolness. I didn't know I could register Cue on this site. Where do I go to register?

This is what I got for settings. Right now, it doesn't sound bad, but if I turn the bass up too much on the total control it sounds kind of muddy.

The total control came with Cue LE and Traktor LE. Side by side, Traktor sounds much better. With all the same settings, Traktor is louder with less muddy noise and more clarity.
