Tópico: Virtual DJ v5.0 And .mp4?

Este tópico es antiguo y puede contener información incorrecta para la nueva versión.

Doesn't appear that Virtual DJ is capable of playing .mp4 video files.

If this is the case, does that mean that we'll have to convert our .mp4 video files...if possible, prior to playing them on VDJ? If this must be done, what is recommended in doing so?

Thank you.

VDJ plays mp4 files just fine.

just my 2 cents, but maybe you have a codec problem.

Warm Regards

Well, it very well could be this computer... It's a new purchase. Just started using it yesterday and it came with Vista. Me and Vista don't get along either. I had installed Vista Home Premium on my other laptop a few months ago...and removed it after 5 months of use.

I wish I owned a copy of XP Pro. I'd wipe off Vista on this new laptop and install XP Pro on it in a heartbeat.

Do you guys have any recommendations for me to fix the codec issue...if indeed it is?

Which version are you using? Vdj comes with the codecs you need. It works in Vista and XP.

v5.0 and I'm running Vista Home Premium.

The .mp4 videos I acquired were through Smash Vidz a few months ago.

Someone with v5.0 please download this .mp4 demo to see if you can get it to play:

I can't play it. Looks like it's a codec cause my computer doesn't even recognize it.

MP4 isn't a codec but a container. The codecs required for this video are H.264 and AAC. VirtualDJ played the video fine. Is your MP4 decoder setting set to Video Decoder from within VirtualDJ?

Mmmm.....guess this is confusing to me here.

Okay, I have installed Combined Community Codec Pack as well as Quicktime. I now have Windows Media Player capable of playing these .mp4 files and Quick Time plays them as well however, VDJ still isn't playing the video. It is however, playing the audio.

Looking into the VDJ configuration for "Codecs". I see mp4 listed in the list of codecs. The Decoder for it is "General Quick Time Audio Decoder". Now that I have Quick Time installed....I do get the audio to play however, still no video. I'm sure it's because the decoder is audio only for Quick Time however, I don't have any other Quick Time decoder to use. I have tried the list of others as well...and still no go.

I use the FFDshow decoders without any problems (I encode using H264 format into .mp4) and DivX codec works well too although it is slower to decode. In your VDJ config section for you mp4 codec change it to "Video Decoder", this will, as I understand it, tell the program to use the codec it thinks is best for that video....someone correct me if I'm wrong here.....All I know for sure is it works for me beautifully

You need to change the MP4 Codec selection in the VirtualDJ Codec's tab to either the Video Decoder or the Windows Media Player Video Decoder. Start with the VirtualDJ Video Decoder, if that doesn't work use the Windows Media Player Video Decoder.

Thank you both for your assistance here.

Looking at my VDJ Config for Codecs...I do not have a "VirtualDJ Video Decoder". The only VDJ Decoder listed in the drop down is "VDJ-samples decoder". This decoder isn't working for the .mp4 files.

I have also changed the decoder to "Windows MediaPlayer video decoder", "Video decoder" and neither of these work for me.

I too have ffdshow installed, but still no go. Maybe I don't have it correctly configured??

In Step Mobile DJ, the decoder you need to select is Video Decoder. This uses VirtualDJ's inbuilt decoders which work fine with H.264/AAC and therefore should be what you need to select for these videos of yours to work :)

If you cannot find the correct options, you can import this registry file to reset VirtualDJ codec settings to the default. Good luck.

I have changed the decoder for .mp4 files to "Video Decoder" however, VDJ will still not play .mp4 video files.

If I open Windows Media Player, I can get the .mp4 files to play as well I can play them through Quick Time.

Doesn't seem like I need to use that registry entry you posted as I can get VDJ to select "Video Decoder" for the .mp4 files.

Man, this booger has got me.

Does your mp4 entry say mp4 and not .mp4 or [space]mp4 etc? If Windows Media Player is able to playback the file then Windows MediaPlayer Video Decoder setting in VirtualDJ should work.

One would think....but not in my case.

Don't know if I mentioned this previously....but I absolutely HATE Windows Vista!!! Just about ready to drop a couple hundred on XP Pro and wipe Vista off this laptop loading XP on it.

Still no go with the video decoder.

Go to the settings -> info -> reset to factory settings. Solved this problem for me.

You said you had 'Video Decoder' and 'Windows Media Player Video Decoder'....
You said you set MP4 to Video Decoder and it did not work...
Have you tried setting MP4 to Windows Media Player Video Decoder ?

Where did you get your MP4 video files from ? Are they created by your own ripping process ? What is the codec you use to encode them ?
