Would anyone on here be able to help me out with a good set of Cumbia songs that'll sure get them on the dance floor.
Really appreciate it.

Also, I was asked for a bunch of "Mexican" songs this evening as well. Other than the mexican hat dance, what are some similar songs for the mexican style they will dance too.

just a few off the top of my head. there are some cumbia compilation cd's out there that have pretty good tracks that i've heard of but can't remember actual cd titles.

elvis crespo ..... does it have to be mexican ?? anything wrong with other latin pop , like juanes ??

uuuhhh bet they have no clue .... just used mexican because that came to mind .... when in doubt , throw on mirame.....
 
laugh, but there's been plenty of nights when it packs the floor full of ladies wiggling their butts to that song. and i spent a bit of time in the Rio Grande valley - high school during the day and clubs across the river in Reynosa all night.
 
Get songs from Pastor Lopez.. Amaneciendo, Las Calenas, Get also Carlos vives-La Gota Fria... He has more good ones to but i cant remeber the names

Are you referring to Cumbia, or strictly mexican music? I was asking about both, sort of two questions there.

grupo maravilla,grupo kual,celso pina,look on you tube there some good cumbia tracks out there.......guaracha, duranguense,batchata...Mexicans will dance that tooo.

At that party at the Mexican Restaurant in N.E. USA, there were Mexicans that seem to have friends there that were requesting "Cumbia", then the Mexicans would come up and say "Do you have any Mexican Music". I'm like, I need folders one for Mexican, salsa, Merengue, and Cumbia, and Nortenas, and maybe more.

Just want to separate the Mexican stuff from the Cumbia Stuff right now?

These are some good CUMBIAS SONIDERAS..Also you have angeles azules..not really bidi bidi bam bam..

HE said Cumbia not salsa..salsa and cumbia are TWO DIFFERENT thing..just a lil knowledge droppin..Juanes is rock...jejeje..

also mexican music is duranguense,cumbia sonideras,cumbias(not colombian cumbias very different also),zapateado,Tierra caliente,Banda,Rock Urbano,quebradita,nortenas,corridos..many more these are just some...

HAHAHA i got to give you a link of this rap song..people think we just dance around a hat..i do..but not just that..everybody thinks all we do is listen to da mexican hat dance song..cracks me up..
 
The key to music selection is knowing your audience.

You can not lump all people that speak the same language into the same category.

It would be like playing grunge rock at a good old south texas hoe down. It will not work.

You also have to understand what NATIONALITY you are playing for. For example, you do not want to play Mexican music to Americans who are of Mexican descent. It will not work. You might offend some people. Tejano and Cumbia music from the USA would be most appropriate.

If you are DJ'ing a party for Mexicans, then you need to play Mexican music...and stay away from Tejano or Selena/Kumbia Kings...these are American singers...although they sing in both Spanish and English.

If you are DJ'ing a pary for Cubans...Puerto Ricans...more of the Salsa...Reaggaton style of music.

If you have no idea, you probably do not need to be DJ'ing a latin party. You will be a fish out of water...and probably not have good reviews.
