I'm looking to buy a new Desktop PC and 22inch monitor.
It's not for VDJ, I'll be using it for video and audio editing/remixing (hence the large monitor) and it will also serve as a useful back-up for all my current media files.
Anyway my budget is around £600 and I'm looking for product recommendations here.
I'm looking at this Acer desktop at the moment: http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/8349285/Acer-Veriton-M464-Core-2-Quad-Q6600-2-4-GHz-4GB-640GB-DVD-RW-Vista-Business-Desktop-PC/Product.html
It's much harder choosing a monitor! So many conflicting reviews etc, so any suggestions here are most welcome.
I've seen a Samsung Model which looks impressive: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-T220HD-22-inch-Widescreen-Monitor/dp/B0017PBPTC#moreAboutThisProduct
Please share your opinions on these products or how you think my money is best spent.
Thanks
P.S "Get a mac" will not be considered a polite response :).

I have a Sony Vaio LT2S. It's a 22" all in 1 but I think it's been recently superceded by a 24" model.

Bit expensive but it's bloody amazing. Blue-ray drive, 1080p display, twin digital tuners, 500gb drive. It's the bomb!
Edit .... never noticed your budget of £600 , the Sony is maybe a wee bit expensive for you!

The Sony won't be as good as the £400-£500 Acer for video encoding. This is the area where a Quad core truly shines. You could save £50 on your budget by going for a 22inch monitor without TV or even £80 if you went for a 20" without TV, it would be the same 1680x1050 resolution. I'm not sure if there's be much in it, but perhaps going for 800mhz memory will be better than the 667mhz in that Acer.
I don't think you can go wrong with any Samsung monitor. We have three in my house and they're all superb.
The screen resolution on this 23" Samsung is insane (2048x1152) and it's £50 cheaper than the one you're thinking of getting:
http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/8921802/Samsung-SyncMaster-2343NW-23-Widescreen-LCD-Monitor/Product.html
However, you may want to think about if that resolution is too large. If you're authoring DVDs which typically are 720x576, perhaps a more typical 1680x1050 resolution is better; depends how much you need on the screen at once I suppose.

In regards to the screen size, I really need the extra size so I can view tracks stacked on top of each other as well as having a decent sized preview window; here's the sort of thing I'm dealing with:

It's hell on a 15.4inch laptop screen, especially as the spec doesn't allow for a smooth preview (so I'm having to render for a proper preview).
Apart from the size I'm interested in a good contrast ratio, the difference in picture quality between my laptops screen and my 32" HD Samsung is unbelievable. I want to avoid using the 32" for viewing my work all the time (which makes the source material look 10 times better).

Try looking into benq lcd monitors. I scored my 22inch hd monitor really cheap. As well as having hd resolution it has multiple inputs like hdmi/dvi/vga. Its perfect because I can plug my ps3 into it as well.
I just built my own setup and it cost me AUD $1600 total. Thats equivalent to GBP$720. My bluetooth keyboard/mouse cost me nearly same price as my monitor and thats included in total price! Clear case with internal LED lighting makes my room look disco lol.
AMD quad core 2.6ghz / video ati 9850 1gig / 4 gig ram. Look around you will find some good deals..

I think I'll probably end up going with a Samsung, i've just got decide on which one.
I don't need the TV Tuner so I may go with the one Andrew recommended...or I might look some more lol.
It's hard deciding when you can only judge according to specs and some reviews, the best way would be to see them working side by side, but there aren't any shops that keep so many models of 22inch monitors.
