Is there a way I can leave an effect plugin on when I change songs?
What happens now is that I activate an effect on track A. Then play track B while I select another track on A. When I load track A, the effect is gone. I'd like it to stay on.

Hum, good point.
The effects are disengaged by default to prevent "accidents" ..
Should be away to apply to master, and leave on... will look into it
