Has anyone used VDJ stand alone without a midi controller, cdj's, tt or anything else?

Well, er.. YES
You can install VDJ on a laptop, and play your music, controll with just a mouse or use the touchpad.
then you can go another step further and use the keyboard to control parts of VDJ (insted of clicking) ie. simply pressing SPACEBAR would set your track playing... (assuming that headphone focus is set to auto)

I understand that...
What I mean is if anyone does use it stand alone without anything else?

Yes, it can be used with the keyboard and mouse, no other input devices.

I know it can be used alone... I use it without anything, just the keyboard on my laptop but has anyone else used it for gigs like so???
No mouse, not nothing but just the laptop, sound card, headphones and thats all???

Don't know what you mean by "all that", but with a mouse (or the touch pad on the laptop) YES - I do it 3-5 nights per week in major clubs in Phoenix/Scottsdale area, Vegas and Orange County. Have been doing it since I purchased it when version 3.4 came out (probably 3-4 years now). I even have the keyboard shortcuts turned off. Once something fell on the keybord and set off a shortcut I didn't want and that was enough for me so since then the keyboard shortcuts have been off.
I pretty much do exclusively video mix shows, but some audio only shows if the venue does not have video screens. For most good Djs there is no need for any controllers or tcv....those are only needed if you want the "feel" of Djing on vinyl or if you use a lot of effects or scratching, or if you get brainwashed into thinking just because you use a mouse you are not a "real" Dj.
I also use an external mixer (either mine or the one in the club). It would be really hard to do videos effectively using the internal mixer AND do videos as they would pretty much always have to be linked and that in my opionion would really suck....but you could if you wanted to.
Other than that I don't know any program that uses mind control to operate it (although the Air Force is experimenting with it for fighter jets so i suppose a Dj program would be pretty simple compared to that) but until then VDJ is as close as you can get.

I have used it many times at gigs, just with a mouse and NO headphones. You better know your music if your going to be that brave though.

Did the no headphones thing in my career a couple of times I forgot them or broke them...once I actually plugged a cheap mic into the headphone jack and used it like a tin headphone in one ear...also once plugged a monitor speaker into the headphone jack.
Once waaaaaaaaaay back in the day when I was still doing vinyl i actually held my ear (back when I could actually hear through them) about a 1/2" above the cartridge to listen to the actual sound on the vinyl.....that was hell and I had a really sore neck by the end of the night.

haha that would look cool and professional when dj sticks microphone to his ear :D
Nobody in the audience wondered that you are supposed to talk to the microphone?

also done that trick but the other way round! swapping my headphones in and out of jacks was a bit of a pain tho! i use vdj +lappy when doing private partys but if there is cdjs or 1200's there ill use tcv\cd.

I have used a lap only. I did use a "split" cable so I could use headphones. Laptop soundcards stink for the most part and volume control smoothness/speed were the biggest issues. Now I use an external sound card and the Korg Nano midi controller.

Luckily I was in a booth in a "crows nest" and nobody could really see me.
