Can someone expalin to me how sound cards work and is their any particular type that i need to look out for?
From what i can gather, they allow you to play one thing through your PA system but also allow you to hear the next song in your headphones, while you mix it in whith the last? Is that right!?

VDJ supports every sound card known to mankind.
There are some that offer multiple channels which for cue monitoring is necessary.
Just look for a card that has two stereo output channels and you should be good to go.
Maya 44, Gigaport, MAudio, u46dj are a few that are popular.

What you could do is to have your "broadcast" sound running through the external soundcard and cue using the computer's onboard soundcard - external soundcards offer a lot of things that onboard soundcards don't have, like tonal controls and weird effects - the box itself is quite small.
The Creative series is pretty good.
