you can either scan all your files at the same time which will take a while better at night.or you can go to your folders and do them one by one
right click on folder scan for bpms
right click on folder scan for bpms

I typically sort my files in vdj by bpm...then analyze the ones without bpms listed.

it doesn't do that
it's one of several nice features that Traktor and other programs have . I have asked for these many times and have concluded that they just don't understand sometimes .......
I wouldn't expect it at all
right now they are very reluctant to discuss what is in the next release and when it is coming out
5.2 has been a bad release due to instability and some users have downgraded back to earlier versions as a result
the recordcase can still use many refinements , but they won't concede that at all
they have a decided slant towards certain things that they do well .like catering to house and providing good support for controllers
still i often think they don't understand the huge American market that well and i often think they don't care to provide features that they have decided are beneath there dignity

Well that was a mouthfull Chuck...
Scanning is a very cpu intencive process and and you probably don't want that running randomly like when you are mixing live....
This company is very focussed on all markets Chuck, perfection takes time with a project this big and diverse.
It has nothing to do with location in the world or specifc market or style of usage, its just not true.
It just takes more time as the software grows and perfects in all areas.
We have always recomended scanning at night while the system is not in use.
Its more effective use of time and doesn't conflict with using the software then.

You can do this by creating a filter folder to list your songs that have not been scanned.
See pages 11 and 12 of the following manual for instructions on how to create a filter folder:
http://www.virtualdj.com/images/pdf/VDJ5-UserGuide_for_Updates.pdf
E.g: Create a filter folder named Not Scanned and set its filter to: isscanned=0
Now you can simply click on that folder and it will list all unscanned files. Press CTRL+A to select all of them, and then right-click on them and choose Scan for BPMs from the pop-up menu.
If you have a large number of unscanned files, this will take some time to complete, but you can always stop it at any point and then resume again by repeating the above step.

i would recommend that procedure since i use that filter myself but it doesn't work .......
everytime i reboot the contents of that folder are different
another of the various 5.2 glitches
friday night at the karate school (new client) awards banquet , with full dance floor , 5.2 did it's disappearing act
who needs new clients anyway ?
losing patience with this very unstable release

Really depends on how you have set up your folders and music database. I leave my music on windows and have folders on my desktop. I access the music that way in VDJ. It works the way I described with my music setup that way. I just did it for new tracks I added.

I thought I was having more problems then most, but all my problems seem to be annoying (like the video freeze). Other than the video freezing I have had only 4 actual program crashes since 5.2 came out and they were all related to the search bug. Since I bought my new lappy (and installed 5.2.1) I have had no crashes at all. For me 5.2 and 5.2.1 have been extremely stable.
That being said there are still several things I would like to see "fine tuned" (a) the video freezing definitley needs to be fixed and this is a VDJ problem because I don't get it on zoom player, winamp, windows media, ClubDJ, or Serato (b) The browser needs to read video tags (c) the bpm scanning really needs to be adjusted to recognize the difference between 86 bpm and 162 bpm (even worse I have many slow songs that scan at over 300bpm!) (d) The way the autoplay works needs to have easily adjustable crossfade parameters like Clubdj and BPM Studio have.
I know these are not VDJ problems, but probably plug-in problems, but (a) when I switch back from the random clipbank to a video it doesn't automatically fade to the video I have to manually disengage the clipbank (b). Clipbank needs more banks (like make each one 1/2 size so we get an 8x6 grid of 48 banks instead of the current 12) (c) A way to use 2 or more plug-ins at the same time (i.e. keep text 2d or sbdj text scrolling running when I engage random video transition or randon clipbank (unless I am doing something wrong right now when I select one the other disengages and vice-versa).
Even with all my complaining sometimes (mostly stress release from the video freezing) I still think VDJ is by far the best program out there...but I would like to see it as close to perfect so it always remains the best out there!
