After a door to door research i have done in my area in Crete down south in Greece at cafes and so called clubs, the majority of djs use virtual dj as their main dj software...BUT i am the only one to use a legal copy..and the answer to my question ,ok since you use the software why dont you buy it,was that I was fool to pay so much money since internet is full of cracked versios..Guys I am talking for a great number of illegal copies...

I used to be like that but then because I fell in love with the product I decided to buy it. They will eventually realize it too, you also miss out on a lot of benefits when you don't have a legitimate copy (plug ins, skins, forum help, updates).

can understand how you feel, i suffer from the same problem of many illegal copies been used in my area, you have a few options open to you i suppose
1. bite your tongue and say nothing
2. tell the venue owners who are using them and that illegal copies can crash at anytime and how detrimental it could be to their business
3. inform your local trading standards or other relevant body
two of those options may result in a backlash on you personally,

Always impressive to see people with enough money to buy decks, mixers, CDJs, MIDI controllers etc, but never enough for the software.

I started out with a very young version... came with the Hercules DJ MKI... Loved it right away, played a bit with it and bought the pro online. And got more goodies on top and all those updates without having to look for downloads that are bugfree, contain no crack or whatever, come with some skins and all... pffff.... who misses something? Not me... apart from some happily spent money ;-)

As already mentioned - they'll miss out on benefits only available to registered users - particularly plugins and skins. It's really not worth losing sleep over yourself, although I get wound up a bit by the crack users sharing my plugins without my permission.
Crack users may manage to get hold of plugins, but they lag behind in what they have and some of my future plugins will have protection built in as well.
Tonight for example I'm running with my latest video transitions, ScrollText v2 with SMS support, and my brand new videoclips plugin that provides an alternative to clipbank (automatically switching clips, unlimited amount of clips in rotation, minimum time for a clip to play - it loops until that timer is hit but doesn't change until the end of the clip, random clip selection). VideoClips has a few kinks that need working out, but I'm actually rather suprised I managed to get it working at all given my inexperience with rendering videos to a DirectX texture.
Anyway, it's benefits like these that the crack users miss out on and you're unlikely to change their mind. Really not worth losing your hair over :)
I seem to have also developed a monster headache tonight, maybe time to look at ear protection...

I know cracked versions can crash in many ways at anytime..and thats where vdj looses in reputation.Becayse all these guys after expiriencing a crash..they come to the conclusion that vdj is not a software to be trusted, and of course they spread all this arround, without mentioning that they use an illegal copy...after a few crashes they mostly turn back to cds or anything else they use, leaving the club owners and the audience the impression that djing with pc and vdj sucks..thats where we loose in reputation, and its more than three times the last two years that doors closed when i said that i dj totaly with a pc and vdj...Online activation or sthing like that would be miraculous in the future..thanks for your time..
p.s I never had a crash with vdj, in a variety of setups..JUST MAKE IT BETTER

My friend charlie its not a matter of being bored...but being professonialy abused..anyway if a moderator feels like that...just drop it off...

charlie you don't have to reply, the same as you don't have to reply to repeat posts from new users, sometimes in a repeat post a fresh outlook to the subject can sometimes be found as in the information given out by Scott and some of the plugins he may be releasing in the future...

There is a way the users with cracked versions can get the updated versions. How do you think they got 5.2.1 in the first place?
In order to use Serato you need to buy the hardware that comes with it. You are forced to buy the actual software with the hardware. Otherwise it's useless. That's where I think the idea of VDJ "sucking" to those people with cracked versions is that it's all you need to make it run - you just need VDJ, no other hardware required other than your laptop or desktop (Wouldn't be surprised it they are using computers with cracked versions of the OS and illegal copies of songs to boot).

Same here, its kind of funny.
The user will post his "wow look at my list of" gear and won't buy the program.
We all know what gear costs, its kind of silly to drive a stolen car in the parade.
To me its the foundation of everything.
And, with what is at stake I want the real deal, not something hacked up.
Obviously its not about the money, but he princple of actually buying something that they find for free.
There is no winning this war as much as you guys want the thermonuclear thing to go down, it ain't happen'n.
Now ask yourself this one question.
If the VDJ forum was just like the Serato forum, nobody would ever know now would they.
Now before you say the SSL box keeps them legal, remember the limitations.
If you need another example the PCDJ forums never identified licensed users correct me if I'm wrong.

That's not strictly true; SSL has been patched in the past to run without the Serato hardware. Whether or not current versions are I have no idea, but hardware protection doesn't always work - and isn't always required. Checkpoint Firewall-1 is a prime example of this - I've not seen a crack since FW-1 4.1 all those years ago - the way it's done now is by license sharing, people seem to have given up trying to crack the application.

I have also seen many crack users of vdj, but I don't let them get to me because I have access to updates, effects, add ons, and this community which they do not. Just last weekend I was using the show logo video effect with soniques overtop and a crack user had a dozen questions about how I do that before I realized he cannot replicate it. So I rest assured knowing that purchasing the license was a good move because it took vdj to its full potential.
