Its so annoying when you are booked to turn a venue around successfully and the Boss says " I don't want to interfere as your doing a good job but there's a singalong discs there, I thought the crowd might enjoy a singalong as its St Georges day " Please leave me alone.
From experience telling the DJ how to work his crowd which he has built up is a no go area unless its productive. I never mind an opinion and willing to listen, but please inform me before the gig of your ideas. Those famous last words " I don't want to tell you your job but " aghaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Thats my beef for today thanks for reading

I feel ya bro.
I tell club owners "Don't tell me what to play or when to play it" I take requests, and i'll play them when and if appropriate.
I am the DJ, this is my job and my profession.
I can take advice. requests, suggestions and constructive criticism. What I WILL NOT take is someone telling me how to do my job.
I've lost a club or two because of this stance but most real club owners respect and understand my position.
Most requests are on my playlist anyway. I'll play them when I get to that stage of the show. NOT RIGHT NOW. and if you ask me for some bullsh*t...It ain't gonna happen.
Good luck with that.

try having the owner come up and insist you play a wack song his girlfriend recorded and it clears the floor. that happened.

nothing new under the sun - been dealing with that crap for the last 11+ years. you can't stop it so dont even try. just be ready to find a different place to work when their bad decisions end up chasing off the customers and the place closing.

it's their club, their investment they have the right to be stupid and ask for anything...and you can always get another job if you don't like what they are asking for.....At the end of the day we are always employees, treated better than most, get more perks than most, have more freedom to do our job then most, get paid more and work shorter hours than most but ALWAYS still employees....we don't have to like it but really if you want to do it your way all the time then buy your own stinking club!

Or become a big headliner DJ that only has to do one or two hour set, get paid a boatload of money then leave. Then you can do it your way all day every day.

that would be nice, but, there is only one of them for every 100,000 of us.....and actually you are ALWAYS doing it someone elses way whether it is "creating" the act to become and stay a star, playing certain songs or doing certain shows or the sponsor won't pay for your tour, playing when and where your agent books you, doing interviews, always having people up in your business, catering to the crowd so they will continue to come to your shows.
Yes, it is a different freedom, but also a different hell.....I would like the money, and I have had offeres in my time, but have NO desire for the fame and everything thet comes with it. My happiness and privacy in my overall life is much more important to me then money or some stupid owner wants to hear at his club.
