Hi guys, i have for sometime been looking at changing the software i use so that i can use the Pioneer MEP 7000 as the main controller. I was wanting full native so Serato seems to be coming out top. I did here from pulse that VDJ 6 was going to offer full native but was wondering if anyone had any idea of when it was roughly going to be released. also has anyone been beta testing this package and what are there thoughts on it. im looking to change the software ASAP so input from you guys would great.
thanks for your help

Hi Iain,
Unfortunately no one on these forums knows an exact release date as yet (although the rumour mills would suggest it isnt that far away) - but nothing confirmed.
Also the Beta testers are sworn to secressy about what is in the next release.
It is pretty much gaurenteed that there will be a much wider choice for "native" controllers in VDJ6 - however whether yours is one of the i genuinely don't know.
VDJ5.2.1 (current version) does offer midi mapping which is pretty good so you could try that out until the next release. But i do understand that might not be ideal.

I think you have to wait for the next release and after that day, you can analyze very carefully which software fits in with your tastes.

Iain,
I'm not sure if you have been around long enough to know but whenever a new release/update comes out it usually happens on a Sunday evening/Monday morning after the weekend gigs. That's kind of how I've noticed it thru the last couple of years. Since it wasn't last night or this morning maybe next week. I know my fingers are crossed. It will be worth the wait I'm sure.
I've been using VDJ pretty much successfully since January 2007 at a minumum of 3 nights a week.

Jay, thanks for the input. One of the guys that works for me has been using it for sometime and it has never let him down. Had a play around with it myself and liked it. Using the Pioneer MEP 7000 is great, its the one thing i missed when moving over to digital djing. there just wasnt for me a Pioneer quality feel midi controller out there but the 7000 has brought to it my front door. Serato seems to be real good but at a cost and i have had some issues with it when loading new files where VDJ just works.
Hope V6 is out soon as im really wanting to change ASAP.
thanks again
Iain
P.s. what is the best area of the forum to keep a look out for the new version

This one Iain, the General Forum mate.
When a new version or update is released the CEO normally posts a thread here explaining what new features and changes they have included.

iainaalpine, I've been where you're at with the MEP, but I couldn't wait so I went and bought the Pioneer CDJ-400's and I haven't looked back. These can be used with Serato and VDJ. VDJ went native with the CDJ-400 late last year. I do believe that VDJ 6 will be out soon though, it'll be worth the wait. Is there a reason you want a 19" rack mounted controller? The only reason I bought mine was for the karaoke CD+G disc playing aspect of it, but I ended up digitizing my whole collection onto a hard drive so I can play everything on my CDJ's with VDJ.
I believe that you will have better control of VDJ with the 400's rather than the MEP. Now I'm working on midi mapping my Pioneer DJM-800 to work in conjunction with VDJ. In the meantime you can use the VDJ midi-mapping for the MEP like I did, I played with for a while and it works ok.

I'm thinking about the SEP-C1 controller only. Hopefully it will work with VDJ 6.0

Well yes, the SEP-C1 is the MEP-7000 minus the CD/DVD/CD+G player attached. So if VDJ supports the MEP, the SEP is covered. I mentioned this in another thread but, if you must have a 19" rack mount save a bunch of money and get a Numark DMC2 which is made specifically to control VDJ, I have one and it is great. Or if you must spend the money, and you have the room, for the same money as a SEP-C1 you can get both CDJ-400's and have the ability to play CD's as a back up in an emergency.

Hi guys, the mep for me is the whole package. drawer unit as backup etc. the 400's are good as i bought them in for one of the shows. Version 6 of VDJ with native will be great i hope when you see what can be done with just the midi mapping.
This is like waiting for xmas as a young child!!!!
