Tópico: SVHS out / Scan Converters etc

Este tópico es antiguo y puede contener información incorrecta para la nueva versión.

The SVHS output of my laptop has died. I initially thought it was the video card that had gone, but images on the laptop screen, HDMI out and VGA out are all ok, so I'm guessing its some kind of scan converter inside the laptop that has blown? If anyone with more knowledge can confirm this it would be appreciated.

I've purchased a scan converter from Maplins. It takes a VGA input from my laptop and will output in composite or svhs format, as the venues I work in will only accept a composite input.
The quality coming out of this scan converter doesn't seem as good as the one that was built into my laptop.

Can anyone recommend a good quality, reasonably priced scan converter? Is it a case of thr more you pay the better the quality, or seeing as they are downgrading the signal, should they all be about the same?

I've noticed the majority of new laptops on sale no longer come with an svhs output, but have hdmi & vga instead. This is obviously great for home entertainment users, but will a scan converter be the only option for club DJ's inputting into a clubs existing analogue system?

All feedback and advice very much appreciated! (Sherz if you are reading this, hello mate, this is right up your street i think)

Howdo Gary, long time no speak mate!

I've got the maplin one as well, I use it on my backup rig - works fine for me. In what way is the picture not as good?

Try changing the resolution of the VGA output - if memory serves, that convertor works best at 800x600...

The one i got from Maplins today was made by KWorld, model SA235. Not sure if thats the same as yours?

Scrolling text isn't as clear as using the svhs output on my laptop was, and it just generally looks poorer. It probably didn't help having it connected via HDMI to the tv indoors before i tried it, that looked great!! lol

I know Averkey make a scan converter, not sure if its any better though.

Ah.... I think mine's the Averkey one...

Guys,

I have both the KWorld one and Averkey. I to can't get a good picture on the KWorld which was sold to me because it was in the Sale (so i thought i was getting a bargain). The Averkey one i have used about 12 months ago but sold to another DJ when i went abroad last year - i ran 8 screen one of which was 120feet away in a club and it worked fine with no issues.

My advice - retunr the KWorld and get the Averkey. =)

Sounds like a pretty definitive answer to me... :-)

Averkey it is :)

Cheers guys

Well the Averkey arrived this morning. Plugged it and and gave it a go.

To be honest, I couldn't see any difference in picture quality at all. Res was set at 800x600. I did find the averkey didn't output to fill the whole screen, even with overscan turned on, where as the other one you can resize the picture to fit the screen completely which I did like.

There must be a better way . . . . .?

You have tried the VGA output with a monitor and checked that it's working ok?

Hmm! iv been using a couple of different converters. there is definatly a difference between using a 'clean' output and using a converted output. I rekon its only us lot that would ever notice it tho ;0

The difference could be the extra cable involved with an external scan converter, where as the internal one is fixed to the video chip i think.

Yes Mr Sherz, I tried the output it was fine, maybe i'm just getting picky in my old age!!
