Any turntable should work, obviously some peform better than others.

A solid recommendation is always the Technics 1200 range (1200/1210).

Also do have the direct driven turntable rather than the belt driven ones;)

To use timescode, the most important thing is the soundcard, then the cartridges, then the turntable etc..

System spec also play a part on this.

I used a pair of Numark Pro TT-2 with a esi maya 4in 4out souncard when i as using time coded vinyls.
Worked perfect for me and was very easy to set up.

This what you need. 2 direct drive turntables. technics 1200's (Maya 44 is not worh getting) its a cheap sound card. Get a M Audio Connective sound card. The sound is cleaner and has more volume. We all know you need neeldes but dont buy just any needle. Not all are great for Time code use. Here are choices... Sure M44-7, Ortofon Om Scratch. The have very good output so you wont have problems with the time code signal. Ortofon yellow, black, silver etc or Stanton's are OK but i dont recomend them for time code use because of its lower MM output.

Basically, any direct drive TT's. The most important thing with Timecodes though is the Stylus/Needles

I use 1210's mk2's with Stanton Discmasters V3.

sweet, i think ill deffo go for the 1210's . i haddnt realised just any turntables would work. i have a technics amp, headphones, stack system and speakers so ill just continue with the same manufacturer. though ive heard gemini and numark are better for scratching, is this true?? not that i can scratch exactly but it is always good to get a futireproof setup.

i did come across a soundcard the other day that had a 4 in 4 out setup but i diddnt pay much attention to what it was or what it cost.

I wouldn't know, I'm know scratch DJ. All Direct Drive's TT's should be fine for scratching as they have plenty of torque. IMHO you can't beat Techinics 1200/1210's.

As for the 4in/out soundcard you can pick a Maya44 up for about £75. But if you are will to pay that bit extra I would seriously look at the M-audio Conectiv, which comes in about £140.

Technics are "the standard" and will last you forever...

I cant judge if Gemini and Numark are good turntables I have never used them. I do know I have had my technic 1200 since 1998 over 10 years and they have never let me down. (Knock On Wood) never had them in the shop or anything. They also have good resale value. I know money might be an issue if so try to find some used technic 1200 you can find them for around $250 on a good day. I started out with some belt drive Geminis and man that was the biggest waste of money (DJ IN A BOX). If your really serious trust me getting the right turntable makes all the difference.

*Might have found the problem with my time code issues reading this thread. My sure sc35c needles might not cut it. (VDJ & TCV THREAD)

Yes, the technics 1200/1210 are the industry standard. If you want proof look at videos of DMC world DJ championship. Vestax seems to be on 2nd. I don't know anything about the numarks, but I played around with one in a local DJ store...it's not up to par with the technics in terms of feel and performance. They will do though.

the Numark TTX is just as good as the Teachnic 1200 range...
i am a hiphop dj that has used alot of gear over the years and found technic is not only the standed and is build to last.......
every part is replaceable......
if i didnt own 1200's the numark ttx would be my next choice....

the gemini i would not even give to my son as a first turntable.....
