I am looking to get either the 4500 or the 5500 to be able to control VDJ. I use to have a 5500 and loved it before I sold it. But I already have a 19" rig that could fit the 4500 and if I can get that I will eventually get the X500 mixer to do video. I have seen the 5500 for as low as $465 and that includes the hard drive tray. I can't figure out which one I want?

The HC4500 is better than the 2500. The 4500 cost less and has better features. One important thing of the HC4500 is, It has 5 cue points. Thats why the price of the HD2500 keeps dropping and the HC4500 is going up. The HD 2500 screen is too small for you to search for songs. Its like dj ying with 2 ipods. Everyone preffers to search for songs on the laptop because of its bigger screen. The 4500 is very good and gives you the main features you need to dj great.

He was asking about the HS5500 ;)
The question is really a preference between whether you want a rack unit, or a standalone. I also wouldn't recommend the HC4500 for any real scratching...

what about the 3700?
Mensajes Thu 14 May 09 @ 7:27 am
Well, I almost never scratch. I would like a 3700, but dont have the money for 2 and want something that is natively supported and cant wait any longer for an update, tourist season is upon us. I am thinking about the 4500 because I have a 19 inch gig box now that I can replace the cd player in and I have an odessey computer stand that I can clamp onto the case for my laptop. Plus I like the idea of being able to add the CD unit.

Just to mix that up even more, the 3700 has a CD player built in, as does the 5500CD.
Sounds like you're leaning towards the 4500 - it's a good unit, I've been using one for ages now :)

I have never used the 5500 but I have the 4500 with the optional cd draws and to top it off the x500 mixer.......... AND I LOVE IT!!!!!!!
Have never had any major issues with this setup and it is so reliable, and for the price its a steel!

I am leaning more to the 4500 because I can put the cd unit in my gig box, will never go totally computer without a backup, and eventually get the x500 mixer to do video. Just wanted to make sure people have had no major problems with the 4500, I know I loved the native control with the 5500 I use to have and never had a problem.

The HC4500 works great - The only thing you need to ensure is that the latest firmware v1005 is installed, otherwise you may experience problems: http://www.denondj.com/firmware.aspx?ProductId=81

well I have a dac3 controller which i love but quality is really bad on them, I broke two already. I am an abusive dj I guess, after sending it on repair once already, and breaking it again I decided to fix, sell and get the HC4500.
But then I saw the HS5500 at guitar center for almost 1k, I was like I wish i could get it, then looked online and BAM 450 dollars. So for that deal I decided to buy it, well now I am having couple issues with it.
1. Currently I use one player, that allows me to control two decks of VDJ, because of the 2 in 1 function. That is great, but sometimes the player will just freeze and not respond to anything, I can still control the music in virtual dj though. I found a way to avoid having to restart, just simply go to settings and deactivate, then activate the player and it will work again, but I work at some very big mobile gigs, like proms and I really don't want that to happen. (it does not happen when i use it with music on thumb drive, only happens in Midi mode).
2. Scratching is almost impossible with it in virtual DJ. Does anyone have issues scratching in VDJ with any other decks? The cue just slips off. Like the wave form moves as you are trying to scratch the same beat. It happens in regular mode too, but very very rarely.
anyone has those issues? I really bought this mainly because I like scratch mixing as much as beat mixing.

I had no problems. You have to make sure your trial version is the latest 5.2.1 for the best support for the 5500. I never had 1 problem with mine. By the way I ended up getting the 4500 just came today!!
Mensajes Fri 22 May 09 @ 2:34 pm
i have a full version 5.2.1 pro.
it still gives me that problem of cue slipping when scratching, real badly.
now my friend has also bought a hs5500....how do we get two of them to work with virtual?

Did you already download and install the lastest firmware and drivers from here?:

Of course you are using Windows, if not, there are not Mac drivers on the Denon Page...
Hope this would help

I use the HC 4500......it's brilliant and there are good mappers availble for use with VDJ.
Mensajes Sat 23 May 09 @ 2:11 am
yeahh well I spoke to guys on denon forums and they said the scratching slip is only caused by virtual djs not so good platter support...virtual dj is the only of few softwares that even support the spinning platter. What I decided is to get the Torq Conectiv sound card and run time code until the problem is fixed...especially that i can not use two seperate hs5500s...can only use one =/
