Hey,
I did my first gig with Virtual DJ last saturday 5-9-09, it was a wedding reception. I had made several playlist for the night such as, before the reception music, dinner music, cake cutting, and dollar dance playlist. I started the playlist for "before the reception" and it played fine for about an hour and a half. Next after I did my bridal party introductions I selected my dinner music playlist and hit the start playlist button and the dinner music playlist started fine. After the first dance and bride/father/mother/son dances were out of the way I went back to my playlist for the dollar dance and when I would attempt to start the playback the songs never would play and the first song didnt get mapped to a deck either. For some reason the rest of the night I could not get the playlist to work as easy as it did for the dinner music.
Also I have a problem where sometime I click on a playlist and the playlist loads in the playlist window, however sometimes I click on a playlist and only the songs in the playlist show up in the main window. I then have to do a "select all" and drag them over to my playlist window.
I was wondering if maybe during the night when I tried to load the playlist I might have had a track playing on the decks, but I have the security disabled so I don't think that could be the problem.

i think you want less dependency on play lists would be my advice, you need less reliance on this function and a bit more spontaneity to your show.

Well done on your first gig but you must of had a really really boring time if you where just putting a playlist on and sitting back for 1 1/2 hours. Unless you are a good actor pretending to mix the songs across lol.
I have a playlist for dinner music as it's just background music but after that i use my intuition to really get the party started so work on that and good luck in the future

I also rely on playlists Until after the Formal dances, once the real dancing starts I do it all, but before I'm out meeting people making folks feel comfortable so later they don't have a problem coming up and asking for a tune.
I use a totally different program for this, If you are just Segueing I can set it up once and I know the Seg is tight every Time, Once the Dancing starts It's all me, I have only used VDJ at two Weddings but does it make a difference once the dancing starts.
The first question is a valid one, I don't use VDJ for Seg's because it likes to to fade up on the upcoming song so I don't use it but if there is a playlist problem it should be addressed.
In a real wedding situation at the beginning I need to have automated segues so I can make sure the reception runs smoothly.
On a side note I beat mixed at a School dance for 3 hours last weekend, had more complements than ever and I felt like real performer again it was amazing and FUN, I have not beat mixed since I retired my turntables years ago.
