Duplicate post ..... Oops!

A mapper is a script that sends commands from a program to a device via midi.

It is handy for controllers that are not "natively" supported by software. Some mappers can add high levels of functionality between software and device depending on the type of midi support and levels of configuration allowed.

The Denon HC-4500 mapper by JPBoggis is one of the more advanced ones and really shows the interaction possible between software and a dedicated device.

Hopefully the next version of VDJ will support receiving midi commands as well, so mappers going forward will be able to be a lot more advanced for controllers without native support.

This is probably BS, but it's my understanding of how it works!

A mapper is simply something that allows control of a device.

There are presently two forms - XML which utilises the simple General MIDI functionality, and DLL which is generally coded in C++ using the SDK and will only work for natively supported devices.
