I have to research this a little more, but I bought a laser light and of course you have to use a fog machine to get the full effects of a laser show. Well when I was playing this past weekend, as soon as i would press the button to activate the fog, vdj would stop working. The music stopped and i could not get it to play again. I had to shut down VDJ and re-launch it. I didn't do it every time but it did it 3 times only to get boos from the crowd. Luckly it was a family party and they let me live. Not sure if it interfered with my RMX or the laptop. I was thinking interference but my wireless internet card is shut off. All the power cords were plugged into the same power strip. I also moved the activating fog switch 10 feet away from the RMX, but that didn't work either. I stopped using the fog machine after that. Granted this fog machine is a cheapo from a Halloween store, but it was just weird. Had this happened to anyone else?
I'm using
Acer,2.ghz dual processor
2gb memory, 120gig hd
VDJ 5.2 pro
Hercules RMX

I used to have similar issues with my old fogger and strobe, the trigger for the fogger may be sending a spike I connected a mains suppression capacitor across the switch to solve that issue.
With the strobe every time I switched it on it rebooted the computer, it was either a spike or mains drop.
Solution use a good quality UPS with mains filtering/suppression, maybe get away with only filtering suppression only when using laptops.

I'm running a fogger too connected to the same circuit as the main system and no problems. Which fogger are you using? I have the ADJ Dyno-Fog II
