Have you considered buying a virtual Vinyl soundcard from the VDJ! .

Yes, I have, but wouldn't the RPM still be a lot better quality? I'm not sure myself so trying to get as many answers and opinions as possible. Do you use the VVbox?

I don't my RMx has a built in Soundcard but i'm lookin at the VV Box or the Deejay trim as an alternative

The maya is a bit year 2000 isn't it???

So are turntables no? lol

the rme uses a high-speed connection on a pci port, no usb or firewire.
so it is possible to use the best perfomance settings with the soundcard, without taking resources from your cpu.
for use with tcv the rme hammerfall ist the absolute premium solution.

Thats interesting. It won't cost me much as I already own a brand new RME RPM, i will just need to buy the expresscard for it, so I think it sounds like a good idea.

Hi guy, i'm currently using the Maya44usb with timecodes. Ignoring the obvious price difference, would I notice any better sound quality/performance/levels etc by changing to the RPM?

Guy, you ask for a comparison between a fiat pinto and Ferrari testarossa

The RPM is a seriously better product with a seriously bigger pricetag. If you can afford it get the RPM, you will not be sorry!

I see, that makes it even easier if you ask me.. Even if the expresscard itself costs more then a MAYA (ar two actually)

A great soundcard that is proven to work flawless is the M-Audio Connectiv. Not the maya or the native instruments. I heard the native instruments gives usb drop outs. The connectiv cost 249 us. Its not that much money and you are buying something very good. When it comes to dj ying.. Don't be cheap. Treat yourself to something great.

Trust me, all these so called 'high end' soundcards do not even come close to the RME RPM..

Besides being a superiour sounding interface it's also virtually system independent and does not take any CPU time (or at least an extreme minimum) and is true zero latency. Also it's one of the few interfaces to operate stand alone, so if the computer bombs out the interface still works and your turntables are available without the need to unplug the interface.

It has to be heard/tried to understand how well designed it is. It's drivers are also superb and afaik are the only ones which actually would allow you to use both ASIO and Directsound at the same time through the same interface... Kinda a side effect from the way the thing is designed..

+1

Oh.. and I forgot to mention most of the current 'state of the art' interfaces many manufacturers offer tend to look surprisingly similar to the RPM, at least from the outside.. Must be a reason for that..

Mind you, the RPM is a unit which was designed and built something like six years ago and it ran at 1,5ms latency on above average systems back then which gives you awsome timecode response, something most of todays hardware cannot even do on todays systems (and quite frankly many software titles including VDJ choke on such small buffers right now).

It's only now that some others are getting close enough to see the RPMs taillights faintly in the distance... ;^)

But enough of the raving, I think you get the point..

RME RPM isn't cheap, and yes it has awesome latency response. I don't see any audio specs, but dynamic range only. As this card is about 537pounds, I bet is a good one, but couldn't really tell if is or not better (in sound) than others if there isn't the audio specs to compare.

M-Audio is a good one, yes and also is FireWire. USB drop outs are only in shared USBs, not if you use only a non shared usb port.

Using the PCMCIA slot is better to reduce latency and better response. Also you could use USB and Firewire to plug other devices.

Between Maya 44 and RME RPM... isn't fair, and RME RPM wins all the way (If money isn't an issue).

Good Luck!

Well the RME expresscard arrived and i followed the instructions to set it up with the RPM i/o box. I also installed the latest drivers and flash bios updates.

Initially, i'm a bit disappointed. Having a reasonable specced laptop I was hoping using the RME would allow me to use VDJ's maximum performance settings, but it seems not. Playback on one deck is ok, but cueing on the other deck causes the playing deck to jump and crackle.

Any thoughts here? Was I hoping for too much?

Gary

anyone?
