That looks really cool... It definately takes time to sort out, plus you need to build what works for you... We all work difeferently...
I've seen a KAM flightcase that has a sliding shelf on top for a laptop. The only issue is that it slides backwards - and in most cases this means towards your audience/dance floor - bad move!!!
Currently I have the luxury of space in both club & mobile environments so I can sit the laptop to the side. Bringing the Q-SD and RMX in to a 10U flight case is going to save me a lot of space already...
I get what you say about weight - and there is also bulk to consider. The last thing you want is a box the size of mount everest to carry around with you... Mind you most of the weight will be in the flight case itself. The RMX, Mixer and radio mic head unit weight next to nothing!!!
I'm lucky in that I have a very good relationship with my local supplier www.essexdj.com as I built his web site.
I gonna take my stuff over there and try it out in a few different cases. I'm thinking a 10x2 will give me the top space I need, plus a U on the front for "space" and then a U for the radio mics. Only leads coming out the back will then be my XLRs to the amp and power. I can get a surface mount USB connector I don't even have to expose any of PC side of things...
Cheers,
Roy

Easy solution, simply run you RMX through a studiomaster C3X and off an additional channel have an ipod connected and cue'd
Could not imagine having the RMX as my main

@gadgetman, yeah your right about the weight amazing how much their is in such a small flight case and the other thing is i have the rmx sliding out simply because of the lack of shelf space in most venues.

Charlie,
Woudn't say that would be practical for mobile... Great for a club/bar where you have to cater for different setups as long as they were hard wired as accessing the inputs after moutning would be time consuming.
The Berhinger Xenyx range is great for venues where you may have a mixture of live music as well as DJ's. All the inputs are clearly accessible and easy to manage like the 1222FX. I had a 1204FX, but was way OTT for a mobile setup - although the sound was superb and the FX were great...
So far I am impressed with the Q-SD. Sound quality is good and good tone control on the mic(s). Each channel also has its own tone control which is good as I found that when you load a track on to VDJ it resets all the deck tone levels which means that if you move the tone control - even slightly - on that deck on the RMX, you can get a huge jump if you didn't reset them between each track.
I agree though, would never use the RMX hooked directly to an amp...
Cheers,
Roy

Yes Tayla, most venues are not geared up for PC DJ's and the extra space that a PC/laptop brings in to the DJ box.
This is a good discussion though, would be interested to see how others set up their RMX or other controller...

I'm no photographer, but hopefully these will give you an idea. (Also, build standard/quality not up to the Tayla Standard, yet! :-)).

@GadgetMan:
I like the looks of the Q-SD above to replace my Xenyx 2442 beast! Only thing it doesn't seem to have (which I kinda like) is a VU meter on the channels or even a master out meter. (I could always add a 1U rack mounted meter I guess...).

hehe tayla standard, me like, there's nothing wrong with yours and the main thing is you have something that works for your situation. mind that beastie must way a bloody ton, you'll have muscles like garth... lol

Muscels me? Not likely! My other half can't wait for me to change that mixer though - she's starting to look like someone on steroids...LOL
Mind you, having herself as a roadie is a great way to get encouraged to buy the new light kit - like I need encouragement! lol.

I don't know, maybe we have different point of view to solve a problem, for me this is my mobile setup (all is carried in a single roll Computer case)

More Pics just give a click on image

From back to front... I put my stuffs on this case like this: RMX in first and some cables, Laptop and laptop cooler and power supply in second, hard disk arrange in 3 space and usb cables, headphones, soundcard, power supplies (cellular phone, sound card), spare cables, laptop stand, and other Things.

@acw_dj: Nope, I think we all (mobile DJ's, that is) want a simple and very portable solution.
For me, I've a few basic requirements:
(1) I need at least 2 mic inputs
(2) I need some level of EQ on my mics
(3) I need to have an alternative and independent (from the rmx) audio source that I can fade/switch in farily quickly should the need arise.
So, I'm on the lookout for a suitable mixer to give me that capability. I've been using the beast above (Xenyx 2442) just because it's a mixer I had from days gone by when I needed at least 11 mic inputs for drums! (But, that another story!).
The ideal solution will let me flight-case the whole deal in one box: rmx, suitable midi/analogue mixer, backup music source (mp3, etc), and as a bonus, a wireless mic receiver (although the latter is a minor requirement).
The biggest deal for me is to find the right mixer to work with the RMX to fulfill my need above. (In fact, I could even drop the rmx if it meant a more suitable alternative surfaced).
The mixer I'm using is way overkill (I know only too well), but until I find the right (and more mobile) alternative, it works!
So, let's have more suggestions on the right mixer folks! We've already had the American Audio Q-SD earlier (which is a possible runner).
Others?

Since getting the C3X 3 years ago it's been a good tool, actualy I have two one for my passive rig (pictured) and one for my active rig.
A lot of DJ's have bought these after seeing it in my rack, I don't see whats not practical about a 1u mixer.
