I know I have stumbled onto a similar topic at one time. I have been using #1 DVD Ripper to burn down my Promo Only Hot Video Series for quite sometime now, with no problems. I now am wanting to burn the ambient portions of these discs which I never had tried to do before. On trying to do this I have ran into some problems. For one, #1 DVD Ripper continuously runs the process, which is most likely something to do with the way these are designed to loop. So I stop them manually. The file appears as normal but is not recognized and wont play in anything. How to I go about ripping these into mpeg or avi?

Greetings,
You can use the Virtual DJ Ripper RipDVD to get 'em. I either use that or TMPGEnc XPress. They work good.

I just upgraded VDJ to 6.0. Could not seem to figure out how to use VDJ to rip anything. I've always used other software for the job. Audiograbber for mp3 and KJ. #1 DVD Ripper for videos. All has worked fine for me. #1 still rips the regular videos great. Just having issues with the ambient section of the Promo Only DVD's. I am gonna try some of the older Promo DVD's because they used to run slightly different. Maybe them will work. I see VenueVJ has some ambient stuff, but is like $50.00. I just cant see purchasing anything when I have a bunch already just waiting to be used. Any other suggestions?

I went and grabbed DVDX and installed it. I see where it brings up all the chapters for the Promo Disc, but does not seem to bring up the section for the Ambient videos. Wht do you mean by, change vob on mpeg or avi?

Alright, I was not able to get much help anywhere. This is what I know. Because there is no audio in the ambient video, this causes an issue with most rippers. Also, because some of them are so short, I've heard. After trying several rippers with no luck, I tried Smartripper. This works. I am able to use the .vob file with success. Now I dont have much experience with these files. I've only played with mpeg and avi. For those of you that use Smartripper. What is up with the rest of the files that are created? Are they needed for anything? It seems VDJ will run just the one .vob file without the others. So, I am just wondering if they are needed for anything. Thanks

Hi,
See if you can get a trial of TMPGEnc XPress. I've been doing great with it ripping Promo Only Videos with the Ambient files. It also rips the video intros with the main video so it is one contigeous file. I love that feature. The other rippers usually do them as seperate files so when you play the beginning of the main video it is sometimes chopped.
I had talked with tech support from Promo Only last month because the July Club DVD did not rip right for me. Support says they changed their authoring method. I think it's because they had that huge PowerSet video. We'll see.
I still got the July and August Hot Video DVDs to rip correctly. We'll see about the August Club DVD that I should get shortly.
The dude from Promo Only says TMPGEnc XPress wasn't designed to do what I did, so I must have found a unique way to use the software. Let me know if you are going to try XPress and I'll guide you through the process.
Simply I start a new project and copy the DVD to the hard drive. Then I start a new project and select all the DVDDATA files that were created. I then select a format template I got from OTSDJ, and then let 'er rip.
It's the best program I've found for keeping the intro intact with the main body of the video, and to also get all the Ambient Videos. They pleay well.
