My local Club are holding a Quiz on a Monday evening and have asked me If I could help out. What I need is some samples of TV Themes and songs from the 50's upwards. Can anyone recommend a site Or could help out in any way.

I run quiz nights 5 nights a week and have been looking for sites like these for a while.
Couple of suggestions for you...
1/ Check out this site and maybe even this one.
There doesn't appear to be too many of this kind of site on the net, but these two seem pretty good. The only thing is, sometimes the quality of the clip you get is not too hot.
2/ I have a freeview box which doubles up as a hard drive which can record...it's great!!! Quality is good and there's plenty there...if you've got freeview/sky etc. I just check what's coming on, record the program, and record the theme tune onto minidisc and use them at my quiz nights.
3/ Although there are bundles of programs to record from, getting the older stuff might be a bit of a struggle if the tunes are not on the net. Golden oldie channels are good for these older theme tunes. In fact, i'm getting sky fitted tomorrow and can't wait to see what i get!!! :o) You could also use dialogue taken from a tv program and have your crowd identify the program from the dialogue instead of the theme tune..especially where themes are fairly short...can't really think of a program right now that's got a short theme...erm...yeah...Scrubs (UK) is quite short but you get what i mean. Also, with 'obvious' themes it might be better to use dialogue.
I'd invest in a hard drive for recording and a minidisc for playback. Ideal! I've got a few discs with theme tunes and dialogue already recorded. If you need anything quicksmart let me know and i'll see if i can sort something out for you...drop me a PM.

hi guys, got quite a few of those tv themes if you need some, basically using them for taking the piss, anything from z cars when pc plod does a walk about to adams family wnen a dozy bunch comes in, quite a few you can mix up if you want.

Just go to amazon or your local cd store. There are plenty of CD's that are dedicated to tv theme songs. There is a whole series. I have them all. Bought them years ago.
