Tópico: Who plays video out with V6?

Este tópico es antiguo y puede contener información incorrecta para la nueva versión.

Hi,

I'm sure this has been done before but not since the release of version 6.

If you play video out successfully (with V6) please can you post your gigging machine specs, I'm especially interested in laptops as I'm after a new one for faster/more stable performance, I'm also after one with a large screen (18").

Does anyone know if the issue with Geforce cards still exists? Many mid end gaming laptops use this card: NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT - 512 MB, or GS model. Does anyone have any joy with this card in a laptop?

The problem with laptops is you can't really "try before you buy" so I'm depending on some good user experiences here.

Thanks

There are at least 6-7 people who constantly play videos in their events. As far as I know, they own normal PCs, with either XP or Vista. Some prefer ATI, because of its historical better video output, while nVidia is more forced on performance. I would go for ATI, because I've seen it does its dirty work very well.

Are you still using timecodes? You know they need even more computation power, so keep in mind you need a VERY powerful laptop workstation to play well, especially for big videos ;-)

So, gaming laptops are surely the best choice for such a heavy resource demanding task, and those with ATI video card have always give better results for video I/O.

Oh, and be careful on the chosen video format. MPEG-1 is already outdated, altough it still draws good images on screens, especially small ones. MPEG-2 is the best at the moment, since it is hardware decoded (like MPEG-1, and unlike most of other formats) and has clear images. hardware acceleration is important, since not only the video, but also the audio will be decoded by your video card instead of your CPU as far as I know. This should give a huge boost on performance. I can prove it worked this way with MPEG-1 videos, two years ago: those files were loaded and analized way faster than simple MP3s by VDJ, and since MPEG-2 is a de-facto standard, video cards should be capable of decoding it like its previous version did.

Many people use DivX/XviD as codec, which is good, and you may find old threads about choosing the best format. There might be other ones better than MPEG-2 for some features (compression as first one), but on performance the MPEG standard has always be the best one supported by any piece of hardware ;-)

Thanks for your response Texk,

To answer your question I'm not fixed on using timecode, I did try using the CDJ1000's, VCI-100, U46DJ (in ASIO mode) whilst mixing MP4's and the result was a mess, firstly the sound garbled up really badly, then I lowered all of my performance settings and it worked but when cueing/scratching the beats were going all over the place, it was unworkable. This is because my current laptop is low end for the task I ask of it, but once I took away the CDJ's/disabled timecode the performance returns to an acceptable level.

It would be nice if I could use the timecode too, but it's more important for me to have solid video performance using a controller.

I Dj with video on average 3 nights per week and have always used a del xps. For 2 years I used the 1710, and have recently upgraded to the 1730. Never a glitch or problem

Still using the same laptop for about 2 years now with an integrated VC but I also use PC with NVIDIA 7300 with no problems for 4 years.

I use this laptop... Toshiba Qosmio X305 Q708 SLI dual NVIDIA video card, but it's 4 G's. I also have this one...

It is awesome also uses NVIDIA and is much less expensive. I'm a Toshiba computer man and have been for many years.

Geeze RudeDoGG your wife lets you spend that kind of money? Yeah...it's a business expense I know.

I went about half that with a maxed out HP DV-9500. I like the 17 inch screen. The keyboard with number keypad is nice. I love the dual 2.5" drive bays. I have a 500 gig as my secondary drive which is filling up fast. I really don't want to hassle with a external drive.

The video card is the Nvidia 512 meg which does ok. But I have to turn hardware accelaration down to notch 3 to avoid video lockup problems. I wonder if I could upgrade my card, maybe put in an ATI if it is bus compatable.

Club video goes out my VGA port and splits to run 3 TVs and 1 projector. I use a USB Intellimouse trackball which is very efficient and pretty scratch capable with the ball.

I use a Creative Labs ExpressCard for line out to the mixer. I put a little echo in to huge up the sound slightly. And I use a Samson headphone amplifier to boost the signal out of the 9500's line out. That works really good with the Allen Heath 110mm Headphones.

I used to run a 19 inch Samsung monitor for my preview, but reduced to a 15 inch. It works fine as a monitor and now Ray can see around it better when we synchronize his songs and my videos together. I end up gazing across the dancefloor to the TV monitor now anyway.

Oh and I use a Vestax VCI-100... which I also love. I'm getting command of all the controls thanks to VDJ's new interface in 6.0. I'm on 6.0.1 and running pretty clean. No problems tonight except for search freeze. But I had filedate turned on. My bad.

This system is much better for me than using vinyl. I'm digging this system.

Fujitsu Lifebook 6120a, core 2 duo, 2.16mghz, 4 gig ram, intel 945 chip set for graphics 512 megs shared ram....videos are mpg2 and mp4 at 720x480 7000kbs with 320kbs ac3 sound. Windows Vista sp2. All media is on an external usb 2.0 2tb simpletech drive (who knows what drive manufacturer is really inside).....I use a numark cm200usb mixer with the sound card built in to it.

Run videos 4-5 nights per week with no significant problems (just some annoying things that I also have on my high powered desktops).

Got it on sale for only $769 so it was definitely worth it.

For years I was using an HP Pavillion DV8000 lapotop:
2Gig processor, 2gigs Ram, Dual internal HDs, ATI Graphics card, XP Pro sp2. A pretty mean machine back when it was purchased. In fact the only reason I upraded to my new machine was it's age and the associated problems running videos on an aging machine. In particular the darned processor began to overheat, even though the fan was still working and the unit was regularly cleaned. At the time V6 ws out but I was still using v5 - as it turns out v6 ran really slow on this laptop given its specs.

Now I have an HP pavillion dv7-1204us:
2.10 dual core, 4 gig ram Vista 64 sp1- a beast compared to the old one. I used to bring both because I wasn't used to and didn't really trust Vista initially, but now I have the Lappy optimized for sound and video and am running V6 nearly flawlessly...

I say nearly because the only issue I have with V6 is related to videos. In the "video" view of V6 you can activate the video out by double clicking the Master Out window in the "video" view. This is great except if it's accidentally double clicked on while performing it un-activates the video out, and if you try to re-activate it it crashes the program, but I digress. If that's the only issue I'm dealing with I consider myself lucky, and it's avoidable.

The only thing I've been doing differently in regards to the laptop is I use a Laptop cooling fan to help keep the processor cool. And another thread recommended a small desk fan to help keep things cool - well I use one to keep my external HD cool.

That being said - I run videos 4 to 5 nights a week without fail, and V6 is awesome. It took a little bit of every skin from V5 that I liked and combined them into one skin.

Hi , just updated to cue version 6 and i am a complete newbie to video.Thinking of purchasing a lcd screen to gig with but what do i need to add to my system or laptop to isolate the video image to the external screen without showing cue screen? i am running a Sony Vaio vgn-ns20z with Dmc2 controller for audio, any advice would be appreceiated regarding which path to follow.

Yes you can!!! I went to PC World and asked if I could take my USB hard drive with VDJ and some videos to try. They said "yes" the demostration machines on display can be used for this purpose. I loaded VDJ from the USB hd, put my serial in and tried a few vids, then uninstalled everything back to previous state, they were quite happy with this. I was able to test 3 laptops before deciding on the one I run now.

HP G70 17" laptop bought in February this year (£650), Dual Core P7450 2.13 GHz processor, 3gigs RAM, 320gb hd, nVidia GeForce 9200M GE graphics card. Now just upgraded to Windows 7.

i'm using a new HP dv6 ......2144nr is the model

small C: 320 gig (perfect cuz i have music on one ext hd and vid on the other ) 7200 rpm

windows 7 64 bit

ATI 4650 1 gig video ram

4gig system ram

using it as my main gig rig presently ....which means more than 40 hours a week .....

only had it for one week

i use 1 and 2 monitors w/ vga connections and a splitter , haven't tried hdmi yet

i have had some video freezes , so far turning off the video cube or the titler or scrolling text seems to undo the freeze.....

never had any video problems with xp ......which was 32 bit

one slight glitch that happens repeatedly is that when it returns to the clipbank at the end of a music video , the shadow dancer in the clipbank

will seriously speed up until i change clips ?? , but it doesn't freeze .....
